Memories and Money: How Much Have Your Childhood Favorites Gone Up in Price?
Ask a Question
So was in my local shop yesterday and decided to pick up a packet of polos I remember them for 10p and they cost me £1.39 …..£1.39 there’s a hole in the middle
What can you remember getting that has increased in price so much ?
Aenurse1 I know crazy. The kids at work moaned years ago even the price went ip. J don't blame them either
Jerseydrew I thought freddos were even cheaper than that. I remember half penny sweets and a 10p mixup bag that I swear contained 100 sweets
£1.39 for a tube of Polo? Am I reading this right?
I remember the absolute shock in the 70s when they went up from 3p to 4p.
Remember the crisps - i think they were snaps - tomato flavour- were 4p a packet- about 50p now !
I would put them back and walk away. I remember when you could get polo's in a pack of five for £1.20 and chisps shape as pigs for 10P
My kids didn’t believe me that we used to have a half penny coin. I had one hanging around and the looks on their faces was like sheer amazement lol
Lynibis lol - i used to love the £1 notes - it made you feel like you had money then !
suevernon1968 yes my dad loved betting on the horses (not addictively) and when he had a good win he would give me £1. It would last me ages.
Lynibis £1 - that was a huge amount of money- before I got my first part time job I used to get excited over 10p lol
Never liked Polos but did use to buy Fox's glacier mints back in the day which if I remember rightly had adverts with a polar bear.
Sometimes get a pack of five for £1 in the poundshop.Won't/Don't buy em otherwise. If I spend pounds I'm buying chocolate lol.
MelissaLee1 I picked up the 110 gm Cadbury's Snow Ball Chocolate Bar for 67p in Iceland last week & 2 packs of 3 small Diam Orange Bars at 62p,added them to my two lots of shopping & got nearly £4 back into my Savings Account using Double Ups...
I can remember age 8/10, getting a bus to the cinema with a shilling. 6d to get in and 6d for a bar of chocolate or ice cream. For those too young to know 6d in today's money ......5p.
