In the News
List of 40 surnames Pontins blacklisted amid discrimination against travellers www.mirror.co.uk/news/uk-news/full-list-40-surnames-blacklisted-32136796
I can not believe this my name is in that 40 list and I’m Irish , but I’m not a traveller and if I was why should it matter , now I’ve never been to pontins but now I never would
Do you think this is fair???
My Irish surname is well known in County Longford, Southern Ireland where my late Dad is from,I'm Irish decent, brought up a Catholic...
I've NEVER been to Pontins either & I never will now..
No It Is not fair and It does not matter too. No wonder they only got two parks left. Min wage too for the staff. Britannia Hotels Is the worst chain In the UK.

I married an Irish man so my name is on the list as well.I could book in with my maiden name and go and cause some more trouble lol.Cheek of it.
I'm proud of my Irish roots,my Irish surname & holiday in Northern Ireland every two or three years visiting my Portadown born partner's family, my late Dad & all his siblings have passed away..
Let's all book in to Pontins & REALLY celebrate our Irish roots on St Patrick's Weekend!!
Wow!!, l have a Irish surname but mines not on the list... Not that it matters because l will never be going to a Pontins
I wouldn't of thought Pontins can do this. There are many groups of people that commit much higher levels of crime but its not PC to ever mention it and don't see how you can protect yourself from it. I can't imagine any business can get away with saying we only allow people of Chinese and Hindi Indian background because they commit far lower levels of crime. My brother had a lot of trouble with where he used to work with travellers/gypsies and it was difficult to deal with it even back then. The trouble is crime increases costs for everyone and I guess Pontins are always fighting to be competitive.
Aenurse1 ...Well said, when I was a child my family were subject to enough prejudice from the local eeejits as my Dad was Irish, eggs thrown at the window, lit rag through our letter box..
Our's was the only Catholic Secondary School in North Sheffield, surrounded by four other Secondary Schools, when I walked to shops on my way from School with my sister to buy sweets we were called " Licks" & spat on because of our green uniform!!
janphoenix51 omg my dad said the same and I was called a cackcack for going to a catholic school x
Aenurse1,Your dad suffered prejudice because he was Irish??
Did you have eggs thrown at your windows??
Petrol on a rag through your letter box??
That's disgusting, my late Dad came over to England & worked his socks off, helping to build Britain,he was a Builders Labourer, when he first came over he would turn up at early looking for work wearing his overalls & found work & helped build The Blood Transfusion Centre in Sheffield, across from where we lived, worked on various projects in Sheffield & beyond,he worked on Birmingham's Bull Ring too..
My Dad took early retirement at 52 to give a younger man a chance of work,he then spent his time tending to his allotment & doing odd jobs..
Dad was well known & well liked,he spent his weekends in the Irish Social Centre with Mum,they had some lovely friends, us children made life long friends there from the Friday Discos..
Dad ended up with Cancer from smoking ,he had 4 month to live & he died on 26th February 1986 aged 59 years & 11 month leaving a grieving widow & 6 children from 17-24 years old..
Aenurse1 Does seem a bit unfair, famous people like Christopher Lee, Nolan Sisters, Doris Stokes would not be allowed, admittedly a lot of those wouldn't care because they are no longer with us. I can't remember how many of the Nolans are still alive. I'm pretty sure Christopher Lee had some Italian heritage, maybe Irish too or just changed his name for acting purposes.
The value of the pound means so many people nowadays can afford foreign holidays but I guess the way its going places like Pontins could become more viable again.
No it isn't fair - it's clearly discrimination. Have to wonder if they can really afford to alienate people
I would like to see them turn the Gallagher brothers away , but i doubt they would go large there
I'd be surprised if it was actually legal, love to see them defend their position in a court of law
I booked into Pontins many years ago but after seeing the accommodation we left straight away and booked into a lovely site down the road. The owners said they got a lot of people from Pontins bookings.
Surprised that pontin's could afford to turn anyone away, if you've ever been to one of their sites you'll know just how bad they are.
Wow just wow that's awful. Not OK. I hope people don't use pontins just out of principle. This is like something out of the 1960s
