In Praise of Grocery Cashback Apps

Money Saving

I know there are a few people on here who also use these apps but I also think there are people who think it isn’t worth the bother of snapping your receipt and sending it in. I just wanted to illustrate why I do it by telling you about my supermarket shopping from 1st to 25 th January. I spent £195 but got cashback of £136, thus only actually paying £60. OK some of the food was expensive items I wouldn’t normally buy, but it was good to try them. Some of the best products I got were 8 packs of vegan meat substitutes (free) and 12 packs of cereal for 30p each.

Wow that’s amazing! I think I started using Shopmium because of something you posted on here. Or it might have been Green Jinn?? Either way, like you said it’s been good to try new products for free/less than normal price.

And Shopmium had a little new year bonus so got a couple of quid for free too!

This is brilliant! Well done!!!

I had a really good run with shopmium around October time. Another time of great cereal offers, combined with an instore offer at Asda!

Agree somethings I wouldn't usually buy, but nice to try new things, especially when they are free!

Sometimes the offers just fall nicely for you at the supermarkets you have near you.

I agree that the cashback sites are a good way to try out new products you don't normally try. I've saved well over £200 over the course of the last year so its worth doing them. The only trouble I now have is that Tesco have gone paperless and Checkout smart expect you to photo the screenshot receipt - but still limited to 4 photos - todays receipt will take 7 photos! Luckily nothing on this week but don't want to loose out too often

I've done it for years . The money is so simple to make and I would always recommend them . I would also recommend the yellow labels at your local supermarket . YOur total is very impressive and highlights how good and easy they are . well done Grannyclock on your savings and free shopping as well.

stuartsmith544 yes my £60 included two frozen turkeys from Asda and lots of yellow labels. The 10p reductions in Asda are great!

That's an amazing saving, I snap lots of receipts for spending to get vouchers but never really got into doing the cashback. I'll have to take another look 😊

I swear by these apps and have had hundreds of pounds worth of free food and for what I can't eat or don't like, I get it for my family or donate to food banks. Points add up too with the loyalty cards so it's a win win from me x

k4ren2006 absolutely! I have made the odd mistake but on the whole it’s effortless and very rewarding.

I agree with these apps being well worth it - it’d be more worthwhile for me if I had better supermarkets near me though. My nearest supermarkets are Iceland, Aldi and Co-Op which don’t have as many good offers as the bigger supermarkets do. I’ve definitely had a few great bargains before from the apps though! Well worth it overall.

cocolgooh it's frustrating when there's a good offer that you can't get isn't it? I'm lucky I can walk to asda and sainsbury's. I try to visit Tesco when we are out and about.

Grannyclock I agree! It’s fun when I get to go to the bigger supermarkets and find some of the items there though. Asda always seems to have lots of good options available, but they’re the furthest away for me haha.

Grannyclock That’s a shame. I’m sure it’s hard for all stores to stock all the offers.
