How mad is this. I wonder if he faked being ill to escape or just it was a chance and he took it? Got to give him credit he has bottle to escape regardless of the fact he shouldn't have.

This is nothing new. I regularly read about absconded prisoners who fake their illness and get away with it - escape - and is never found again.
jam45 it's not new just find it mad that people still get away with it and the systems not changed to stop it happening
The mental health services (even high security) are failing due to low incentives for employees to take on the roles required. They often use agency staff. It boils down to those who get out/leave are a cost which is then passed on the police force who have exactly the same problem attracting staff.
EmmaWright762 these are important jobs but who in their right mind wants to do them. I work in education. That's horrendous and stressful. Don't get ne wrong I love my job but it's no walk in the park. It's hard work. The abuse I get from kids and parents is awful. I'm white but had kids using racial slurs towards me. That was awful and grateful those who it would have effected didn't hear it. I really struggled dealing with it because of what it would have done to those it would have been effected by it. Given this is a school and not prison it's bad enough. No way would I do that job given the conditions staff have to work and the rubbish pay. Those of us in these kind of jobs aren't paid enough in the slightest
