Prisoners Could Be Offered Guilt Brain Implants Instead of Prison in the Future

Ask a Question

I am one of the first who complains about prisons being overcrowded with criminals who treat it like a holiday camp

And many just end back inside after being released, proving the system does not work

It costs the tax payer billions per year to keep them there and the prisons are at breaking point

But what if the criminal had a choice , prison or an implant in their brain, false, traumatic memories that force them to feel the crime through the eyes of their victim

So for example a drug dealer would have an implant about addiction receive the feelings an addict would feel at their worst

It might sound like fiction but scientists say it may be available in the next ten years

They just need to study the ethics of it and any psychological consequences

What is your opinion of this , is it a better idea than imprisonment ?

I am afraid I don't agree with anything that interferes with the brain's function. I can foresee problems.

The judicial and prison system definitely needs a huge overhaul, I don't deny that, but can't believe no one has come up with a better solution in the 21st century.

Lynibis You are right L , it is a big problem that is getting out of control, prisons are full of drug related offenders and increasing daily

I don't know how this would work, it would need the consent of the offender and the authorities and it would need to jump through hoops regarding morality and legality

Unpopular opinion but I believe in the death penalty for certain inmates which would clear out a few spaces

Remember when they said shocking the brain could cure mental illness,, well that didn't go well, more prisons and longer sentences is what's needed

martinlufc5637 It's the expense that is the problem M

They haven't got the money to build houses and hospitals never mind prisons M , and each prisoner costs as much as £50,000 to keep in jail per year

The country is buckling under debt as it is , any way that they can reduce prison population without endangering the public is a plus in my eyes

Whether this is the answer , who knows, but something needs to be done and soon
