Private School - Would You Send Your Kids?

Ask a Question

If you had the money, would you send your kids to private school?

Do you think they get more opportunities and a better education there?

I think the best education is one where you mix in with people from all walks of life and not just a select few.

MelissaLee1 What if you did something like primary school but then went private for high school?

SamGoodship Again. It's a no for me.Uni is a good place to hang with a 'different' clan if the fancy still takes.Educated working class for me always preferred to landed privilege but then I've always been a little left off centre lol.

No, I would not as they need to mix with others from all walks of life

Yes I did. My kids went to prep school. It was money well spent despite being expensive. Smaller class sizes lead to a better level of learning and levels of discipline are far higher. They then went to state secondary school.

No, I went to private school from year 7 upwards and felt I had a better education prior to this. I believe the private education held me back as the discipline was not as good and there was too much spoon feeding through exams so I struggled with higher education after school.Find a good state school and be there to support your child's learning as they get older and teach them how to study, learn and find answers for themselves independently.

I worked as an outside instructor in a private school , and came to teach the kids climbing, archery and canoe/ kayak. I felt like the had a lot of opportunities sports wise. More so than mainstream. But can't comment on education.

No I wouldn't. I think the best education is one where you mix with people from all walks of life; private education just creates connections in an old boys network.

MikeL -What an odd comment! Whatever 'walk of life' we come from, we all use an old boy network - people we know or have met who can help with problems or advice.

We considered it - and it would have been the best option for our autistic child, especially with the better 121 support. We couldn't afford it and I chose to be the stay-at-home parent and offer them the support whilst they had/have a very difficult and challenging navigation through the public school system.

I doubt it - but then my kid would also have a say in it. There is no point forcing a child to go to a school that they don’t want to. If after say 6 months they hated where they were - i would move them. A happy child will learn better than a miserable one.
