To be honest I would have given them the death penalty. They will cost 100s of thousands now possibly millions in costs. Call me mad but I'd rather not have innocent people dying in the street homeless or elderly people being evicted from their retirement homes as more close to keep this scum alive. We are a bankrupt nation and we act like we can just afford to keep spending 100s of millions on killers in jail. I just think in this instance when they intended to kill their victim and did so they should forfeit their own lives. It's good to be idealistic in many ways but there simply isn't the money available to do so nowadays without making others suffer because of it. We all die its just a matter of timing. They are never safe to release anyway yet probably will be out in 20 years to cause more suffering and possibly end the lives of more innocent people and those victims probably won't be told these killers are in their area when released. Just seems madness to me. Japan has over a 100 people on death row and that is a very low crime rate society. The UK would probably have 1000s of people on death row who committed similar levels of violent crime. Looking online our intentional homicide is quite high at 1.2 people in every 100,000 people. This is likely to increase. I'm in a town of 50,000 people approx so every 2 years you would expect for someone to be murdered here. From reading local news it feels a bit higher than that but I guess you have to factor in areas which are very low crime. Also a ridiculous amount of murders are re-classified as manslaughter. I don't see how any stabbing can ever be classed as manslaughter for example.

As for naming them I wonder what the point is. If they go into prison and other inmates know who they are it could lead to an incident and another crime and then another court procedure at huge cost. I know for some this could be a good thing that other criminals might attack and kill them but I don't agree with that I believe the state should be professional at all times and only the state should proceed with a death penalty with as many safeguards in place as possible and as humanely as possible.

Yes I do agree they should be named. There's a limit to what crimes where those committing it should unnamed. This is not one of them.

The only problem I have with them being named is the problems it will cause for their families. The killers deserve to suffer the extended family doesn't

Undoubtedly YES! If you don't want to be named for committing a horrendous crime - then don't do it! People need to be accountable for their actions and should think about the consequences beforehand....

They have proved they are capable of plotting and carrying out murder, so basically they have ruined their own lives as well, therefore I can see no benefit to anyone by not naming them. Just feel sorry for the parents but can't help thinking they were not raised with a good sense of good and evil, unless there is indeed such a thing as 'born evil'.

Lynibis I believe that all children are told right from wrong doesn't matter how they were raised kids are gonna do what they want or at least try to anyway I believe these are just pure evil they were planning to kill someone else but thought she was a easy target I don't think they should ever get out

Leannexxx the trouble with evil people is that they are monitored by basically good people and good people find it hard to punish bad people as severely as they should be. The guy who imprisoned his daughter in a cellar for 24 years and had 7 kids with her is on the verge of freedom. She and her kids still suffer, one of them cannot stand straight after years of stooping.

I believe only victims should be entitled to stay anonymous, life is about choices, if you break the law, it's by your choice so why should you be protected once prosecuted

Sure - I don't see why not. If they can release names of people suspected of a crime (and there's not even enough evidence to prosecute and their lives are ruined as a result of name release), there's no reason not to name murderers, regardless of their age.

Yes definitely named at any age

I don't admire much about the US but having the death penalty to me is one thing i do, it is a necessity

Ok not all states have it but some do, and i believe it is a great deterrent

When you have retrobates like these pair in for life , the taxpayers are going to fund their all inclusive stay in prison , meals , health care, dentistry, further education, tv , video games, gymnasium etc etc

Ok they don't have their freedom , but when we have people homeless and sleeping on the streets freezing to death, where is the justice , ?? i am sure the homeless would exchange their life of misery for a spell inside to be fed and warm and sleep on a comfy mattress instead of in a cardboard box

A quick exit from life is all they deserve in my opinion

What is the reasoning behind not naming murderers of this age? I can sort of see the reasoning in certain cases but in this one they were 16 and it was clearly a very calculated act

Absolutely. Sadly their actions are a reflection on youth culture, where death (or killing someone) is not Final, they think people have multiple lives or can ‘respawn’ like in video games. As with so much youth knife crime, they have no consideration of the consequences - either for their victims, themselves, or either‘s families.
