Rebuild HMS Titanic for Cruises?
In the News
I read that a few companies have thought of rebuilding HMS Titanic from the blueprints from top to bottom as a cruisliner. But so far it all comes down to the consumer interest to make the costs viable.
I for one just think its an awesome idea and would pay to sail on it.
Yeah me too. I would go for that. Same as Concorde. I would love to fly on that as well If they brought It back to life but my guess Is it would be way too expensive.
Emerge11 I hear you. As for Titanic it would just be so great to experince that elegant old design...
Sure that wasn't the April's Fools joke yesterday.....
Partner, daughter & I visited The Titanic Quarters in Belfast the other year when we were visiting & staying with his family in Portadown, 30 miles away..
We loved learning & seeing for ourselves the history behind this beautiful ship.
I was working with a young 20 year old colleague at the weekend who's 7 year old brother is absolutely mad on The Titanic. So obcessed that my colleague, his little brother & Mum had a day trip to The Titanic Quarter from Chesterfield in one day, they loved it.
Be good aslong as it doesn't go near ice bergs! Can see it be great for those wanting to go on the boat
I wouldn't go on it myself find it very odd that so many people are interested in the titanic going down to see it as so many people lost their lives on that so building a new one is not for me
Leannexxx I hear that and thats fair enough. For me it is like going into space on the Space Shuttle Endeavour which was built to replace the lost Shuttle Challenger. It continued the saga of what Challenger would have done and so for me honoured them. I would not see a rebuilt Titanic as macabre but a celebration of the journey Titanic would have taken.
The Titanic was fairly small compared to modern cruise ships. Presumably, they would need to alter quite a lot of things, such as adding showers in cabins and improving safety features. Most of the third class area would need to be changed. It was a noisy part of the ship, as it was positioned close to the engine room. Only shared toilets were available and there were only 'two baths for everyone in third class' - www.bbc.co.uk/bitesize/topics/z8mpfg8/articles/zkg9dxs
There would undoubtedly be a queue for the bow of the ship [and potentially an additional charge] for passengers wanting to recreate, and photograph or film, the 'I'm Flying' scene from the 1997 film. A lot of passengers would potentially get bored without access to certain features found on modern cruise ships.
I'm sure there would be interest, it's not my cut of tea though, why anyone would be interested in a ship that 1000's died on is weird, but that's human nature for you
I would love to go on a cruise on a titanic replica as long as it had modern safety incorporated
Doesn't appeal to me and doubt they could build it the same as it was a ship of its time and it would have to be changed drastically which means it won't really be a Titanic replica.
