Do you mean to play vinyl records (from a charity shop)? Years ago, I brought my record player from Argos it later reduced in price - clearance by 70%! Have you tried Currys or Richie Sounds (daylight robbery prices for a state of art record player)

Secondhand would be the best bet and as its a nostalgic purchase anyway I think secondhand is ok. I remember the Dual CS505 being a great value record player back in the day. It punched well above its price sonically. Definitely get something with a magnetic cartridge rather than ceramic which wear out records faster. I'd look on ebay, gumtree and facebook marketplace to see if anything interesting comes up at a decent price local to you so you can see it working.

There are a dozen or so on this very site. Prices vary from £30 upwards and a good selection.

We purchased a really nice one a few years ago to play our vinyl records, I think we used it twice. Hopefully your dad will appreciate it more.

martinlufc5637 Yes, there are some starting as low as £40.

I have a vinyl/record player and a decent amount of vinyl discs (people left them outside for someone to pick up) of Country Music, but I honestly just prefer to play a radio station or search it on YouTube Music (with an adblocker enabled so no ads).

Older generations tend to cherish it a lot more as they grew up with it.

Depending on your fathers tastes and if he is a fan of the 50s/60s there are some cracking record players about that come in the style of a juke box. My sister has one and it looks awesome.
