Should We Get Rid of Golf Courses?
Ask a Question
Do you play Golf? Do you have a course nearby?
I heard there is an activist that says we should be using the space for the community for things like open gardens or more housing.
There used to be a gold course behind my house but it the company that maintained it couldn't afford to during covid so it closed down and became open land for dog walkers and the like.
I have no interest in golf myself but I think its a perfectly valid sport and golf courses should be available for those who enjoy it. My idea of a good golf session is crazy golf and those courses are much smaller. I guess there are virtual golf games now so people can play them in a virtual world but still real golf deserves its place. I used to work for Age Concern many years ago and remember elderly people who really looked forward to a round of golf once a week.
There Is a huge golf course near me. I dont play myself but each to their own. There are plenty of places near me like gardens and walking as I live on the coast. Its up to the council to create more housing but I doubt they will.
Where would it end? Let's campaign for all land used for exclusive sports etc be land grabbed, where would the line be drawn?
tumblespots I must admit I was going to say that myself but thought I might be overstating my views on population control!
Lynibis We think exactly the same on that! It's just a shame that others don't see it ...
I saw that yesterday. I like the losing one of the holes for a community garden, allotment or rewild it
I understand that golf clubs can be a bit exclusive but im not sure we should be getting rid of them. A lot of older people get their exercise from golf clubs
As far as I can work out the golf course is being used by a community of golfers. Last thing need is more houses being built.
We have lots of golf courses in our area. I know people of all ages who play (9, 29 and 80) so it is a sport enjoyed across the board.
So no I don’t think they should be shut down.
