Riddle Me this..
Ask a Question
A 10 foot rope ladder hangs over the side of a boat with the bottom rung on the surface of the water. The rungs are one foot apart, and the tide goes up at the rate of 6 inches per hour. How long will it be until three rungs are covered?
Now that it's been solved by davidstockport I will provide the answer here: The boat will rise with the tide so the ladder will never be covered.
Thanks to everyone who played
I think it would be 3 hours ? I think I could be wrong I thought I would give it a go. Thank you for sharing it.
saintsmoney I don't think I was good at that. But i had a go. Thank you for sharing.
nicolajaynehend I wanted to keep the façade that it can be solved with maths, sorry for that misleading reply
Should explain because boat and ladder are both rising with the tide - the rungs will never be covered.
nicolajaynehend It's the kind of conundrum that "blinds you with science" by giving totally unnecessary information. You need to try to see as a picture in own mind.
