Rise in Shoplifting Cases

Some through desperation,some for gain or greed and others for the thrill I guess.

I like to think that people arent shoplifting because they want too.. I imagine with the cost of everything going up and sheer desperation people have turned to it. A shame really

The local police shared a cctv image of a well groom gent with a trolley load of champagne and spirits not paid for! High end shoplifting.

Because shoplifters dont get punished - they know the police rarely come out to deal with them, so many reoffend. There’s also loads of bystanders who side with the shoplifters - I’ve seen it happen many times, so shoplifting is now excusable (utter madness!)

People are right about some people shoplifting just to sell it down the pub I know a few pubs down London where they shoplifting to order also seen many times people shoplifting at our local Tesco store

I think it is a mixture of reasons. Some people will be shoplifting because they can't afford things due to the cost of living. Others steal to fund a drug or alcohol habit. Some steal for the thrill of it. Others steal because they know that the police won't do anything. They make sure that they steal below the threshold amount and that way the police aren't involved. Even when the police re involved there is rarely any punishment.

It's ridiculous that the police have a threshold to come out for. It's not OK. I'm not surprised about the champagne guy Pjran totally agree with you @@MrsCraig and hspexy but some of the bystanders won't get involved because they don't want to get charged by the police because we know the police will charge them over the rrwal criminal and there's the risk they will get stabbed. jdible I take it you've seen them in the local pubs selling the stolen goods.

I am not at all suprised. The way the people of this country have been coerced into poverty by those in power is atrocious. I was asked once if I would like to go shop lifting and I had to decline on of account I have a conscience which would keep me awake at night.

I was reading the latest Woman & Home magazine and was amazed to read some wealthy women shoplift for the sheer adrenaline rush it gives them!

Not surprised. Iv seen a couple incidents of brazen shoplifting recently. In our local Home bargains a guy came in & cleared a shelf of coffee into his bag. No attempt to hide it. Staff said it's happening almost daily because they know police don't come out anymore.

Not noticed it personally really but i have heard others saying that they think it has increased. Not that surprising really given how expensive everything has become

Don't be surprised when retailers announce they'll shut down stores where it's most affected by shoplifting.

In the U.S. when retailers did that, some called them "racist," but no one cares about that label anymore.
