Room Planning Living Room / Bedroom Sleeping Area
Ask a Question
Hey folks just wondering where I might start to find some inspiration to plan a living room and combined bedroom space.
Does anyone have this arrangement?
Can it work?
I have quite a large living room which I could ideally do with splitting into a extra bedroom as well as keeping a living room space.
I'm guessing a sofa bed is the best option but was thinking if there could be a way to keep a permanent bed but also a living room as well.
I rent so can't make permanent alterations like a wall.
Any ideas would be welcome or experience of this.
If you're renting from a council, you could put a partitioning wall between the two areas but don't tell them or they'll charge you more council tax for the extra room.
pato no it's not a council property it's a private rent I'm afraid so doing work like that really isn't an option.
ILOVEFANTA That's a pity as you can do wonders with partitions which can easily be removed if you know what you're doing, but most private landlords don't even allow you to paint the place.
pato yeah can't imagine this landlord allowing anything on those lines at all. So I'm quite limited was thinking possibly to use a sofa to mark off two distinct areas.
I was hoping other people might have done this already as I'm not the most creative and struggling to visualise what could be done.
ILOVEFANTA I think a corner sofa would work and also look good if you painted the walls 2 different colours as they will both work in conjunction to create a 2 room look.
pato that's really helpful thank you. The different painted wall to distinguish would definitely be possible, and the corner sofa would allow plenty of seating
ILOVEFANTA Yes, the corner sofa will allow for everyone to face away from the bedroom area, you could also try putting a couple of those large floor vase arrangements at each end too.
ILOVEFANTA What about room dividers like example, or wide shelving that can be accessed from either side with perhaps a divider or narrow bookcases/shelves back to back to give same effect?
lilyflower thank you that's a great idea too with the room dividers and would add a bit more privacy
I suggest you look on Ikea, they have some good ideas, and a free room planner, maybe get a room dividers, which works for both sides.
Thanks everyone for all these fantastic ideas it's really helped me see what might be possible with this space.
I'll get my drawing pad out and sketch out some rough plans.
