Scout Raises Slept in Tent for 365 Days for Charity

Joshua Fuller, an 11 yr old scout has spent a year camping in his garden to raise more than £4,000 for the hospice which cared for his grandparents. He camped out during storms, heatwaves and gone through 3 different tents in 365 nights of camping outside his family home. On his birthday in April, he asked for donations instead of presents.

I can't understand the meaning of a sponsored walk, camping in your garden or whatever to raise money for charity. Can't the hospice ask for a grant from various sponsors for their charities? I used to do a "sponsored walk" and did nothing and give my own cash to the charity!!
