Seafront Public Toilets in Cornwall Sell for £169,000
In the News
Property prices have gone through the roof lately, if you will excuse the pun
And some people seem to pay any amount for the smallest property
Anything from a beach hut to a garage , and this is no exception
This listed property labelled ''A loo with a view '' has been sold at auction for £169,000
Based in Cornwall at Longrock, near Penzance It is actually a disused toilet block that originally had a guide price of only £20,000
With spectacular views someone realised the potential and spent more than a penny
If you are ever in the area and are caught short you could always give the owners a knock and ask to use their facilities
But they would probably tell you it is in'convenient'at the moment , and to try another 'Looe' , only 67 miles away

I just get hit with a paywall when I follow that link. Do you subscribe to the sun web site?
BonzoBanana I just checked it B and it is blocking me also
It happened the other day too, i will find another link in the next minute or so
Thanks for letting me know
Update new link now above
Where I live public loos have been sold off and turned into cafés. Annoying on was turned into a fancy restaurant. Shut down in weeks of opening. So the public lost loos and a van type cafe in one foul swoop. The nearest loos are either another restaurant who won't want people literally just off the beach or a 5 minute car ride
There seems to be a lot of loos being sold off then J, i wonder if part of the reason is cost cutting by the councils because of cleaning costs etc ?
telmel I'm sure that is true. They all cost money to run but then it could be short term thinking when less people go to places to shop because there are no public toilets. Here in Yeovil there are public toilets but one is quite a way from the high street and the other is hidden away behind the main Middle street shopping. However there was a perfectly positioned and very nice toilets at the top of the Quedam shopping centre and they are just blocked off nowadays. Everyone uses the Marks and Spencers toilets which is very unfair on M&S with lots of people making use of them who aren't actually customers of M&S.
Going back to this sale I can't believe anyone would pay so much for such a terrible bland building but again they may have plans for it that will make sense. Maybe it would be a good position for a cafe or similar.
BonzoBanana I think the spectacular views help too B, even though some may not like the expression "you are living in a toilet " , literally
telmel I assume the building would be demolished if it was to be someone's home. I can't imagine that being very nice with just a couple of windows stuck in it, it would have to be a full new build however I could imagine it be re-utilised as a little cafe with a takeaway window and perhaps a few tables and chairs around it. I'm assuming in the summer that beach is full of people and there is some money to be made.
BonzoBanana I remember last year or so i posted about a toilet , i think was in London that was turned into a cafe , i think they had toilet seats for seating
telmel Toilet seats for seating sounds a bit weird. I could imagine someone with dementia having a dump in one by mistake when they get confused where they are. Personally I would of thought trying to eliminate all connections with its previous use was better. Yes local people will know what it was before but still I would try to distance the business from that history.
BonzoBanana I found a similar one , but the urinals seperate the tables
Cost a lot to spend a penny these days.I imagine most fellas would just stand on a rock and pee in the sea .
I can't believe anyone would bid £169,00 for something valued at £20,000. I am shocked no one offered £5,000 only regardless of what they are going to do with it.
