Planet made of diamonds dwarfs the 2nd Largest Diamond Found

In the News

Diamonds are a girls best friend, and who wouldn't want to own this one in the photo

A bit too big for the finger though at 2,492-carat and is the second largest ever found

The largest ever found was the Cullinan diamond and was 3,106 carats

But dwarfing both these is a planet suspected to consist mainly of diamond

Its called the55 Caneri-e which was discovered in 2004

It is twice the size of the earth and the estimated worth of the planet is around $30 nonillion (30 followed by 54 0's)

But don't get too excited, its a bit far to try to get yourself a chunk at 40 million light years away

If by some amazing miracle we could reach that planet and mine the diamonds I imagine the value would decrease. I don't understand the desire for things like diamonds. If I wanted a sparkly bauble, which I don't, cubic zirconia would do me, no one would know the difference!

Lynibis I think with diamonds its just knowing you own something that took over a billion years to form , some more than 3 billion years , unlike factory made diamonds or other gems
