Secret Santa at Work

Ask a Question

I'm interested to hear what others think about doing a secret santa in the workplace.

I've taken part in loads over the years and don't think any of them have ever been kept a secret.

Do you participate in them? How much do you think the limit should be? 🎅 🧑‍🎄 🎄

My place doesn't do secret santa but have done it in the past. I felt pressured into doing it in the past. I hated it as we got some joke presents that ended up in the bin while others got decent presents

We don’t do any gifts at work. Cards are sufficient. Unless it’s someone you really genuinely like and get on with it’s up to you.

I have never done a secret Santa. I do like the idea as long as the moment spent is not over the top. It’s the thought that counts and if you see someone has tried someone a bit more personal that means so much more.

I've never done secret Santa. I'm glad we don't at work. I think the company is too small for it to work well

I've done it once, never again. My work does it but you have to sign up for it. My husband is usually involved in one at his work but don't think they are doing it this year

I used to enjoy taking part in it years ago but not so much now, I avoid it now as I think it’s lost it’s touch

Love it. 😍 we have a £20 maximum limit but everyone always goes over. Nearly everyone at my place if work participates. Its a really good way to get to know each other better and possibly even connect on a common interest not previously known.

I do participate but don’t really like it too much. It’s bother trying to pick a present and then most times the person probably won’t even like it. A few times i’ve bought a gift for the person who’s name i got but the person who was supposed to get me something didn’t which was annoying and awkward

Yes I do Secret Santa at work it's a maximum of £10. You get the person's name and 3 things they like so helps to know what to buy them.

I think it can be good fun, but should be open to whoever wants to do it without pressure.

I always enjoyed secret santa - but working from home has killed it off for us now. It could be difficult for some newer people in the team but I always enjoyed the challenge of choosing a decent gift.

I actually really enjoy picking gifts for others. I love to wrap things up nicely, adding cellophane, ribbon, bows, etc. in all the years I've participated in secret santa, I think I've only had 2 rubbish gifts, which is not bad going 🤣🤣

We’ve done it and it’s ok - just expect stocking filler gifts. It’s a chance to bond with colleagues you’re otherwise unlikely to hang with

I did it one year when I worked in a school. The limit was £5. I got the headmistress to buy for, and I knew she had a good SOH. She was running in the London Marathon the following year, so I bought some trainer socks, a packet of laxatives which I wrapped up with a card saying "Just a little something to help you run a bit faster!" The whole staff room was in hysterics when she opened it and to this day she still doesn't know who it was from 🤣

Done it once in my dept at work. I bought a jokey present for my person, cos i thought that was the whole idea, a laugh, but no I was the only one who did that. So I'm never taking part in another.

Lots of other departments are doing it with a £20 limit. No way I'm paying that for a person I work with. It's ridiculous. We barely do presents in my family any more, so for a work person? Joke.

I’ve never been in any work place where they do secret Santa. I remember as a child my dad coming home with a wind up jumping Willy😂
