Hi I'm moving house soon (which is majorly stressful!) I wondered does anyone has any advice on how to deal with moving or advice on how to conserve cash? Any advice appreciated.
You can get boxes for free from supermarkets if you browse instore or ask staff. Useful for moving things safely.
Great idea I bagged a load from local shops and ordered this as well
Look at this on eBay www.ebay.co.uk/itm/151288490634
Pack yourself a small welcome home hamper/treat box. Bottle of wine / glasses, corkscrew, quality box of chocs and anything else that would be a real treat and make sure its one of the last things you put away or at least you can find it quickly when you arrive in your new home. When the removal people etc have all gone and its just you and the family in your new home and you get that first moment to yourselves - open the box. enjoy the moment. Not a cash saver or anything but it will give you a small break in the chaos!
Me and my fiance thought this was a fab idea. We've made a care hamper up filled with nice stuff and a boppit toy so we don't forget to have a giggle.
Hi Thought This Might Help https://www.latestdeals.co.uk/deals/tape-gun-dispenser-12-huge-rolls-brown-buff-48mm-x-66m-tape-ebay
Great idea I've bought the tape dispenser this is going to come in handy for packing all the boxes and if my fiance annoys me as we're putting stuff in the van I can always tape him to the door and leave him in the old house! That's a whole lot of tape!
I usually start to pack months before, now I just keep some of the things in boxes and do not even open them. Most of my books are packed...It is very tiring to move house and it also burns cash....melts money away....
The best way to move to invite all friends to help to pack stuff and take stuff and move stuff....
LD should make a search App which shows the abandoned places, the houses which ones do not have owners... I think the properties to rent got extremely disgustingly expensive..and I believe they should not cost more than the minimal wage of one person, including bills and everything.
I agree rent is extortionate our mortgage is cheaper than most rent in our area. Rent should be lower than it is.
I've started taking things to charity shops ahead of removal dates. I like the idea of friends helping packing. Think a removal party is in order! As long as the horrors don't get drunk and trash my ornaments.
I didn't realise you can hire a removal van you can drive! This sounds like a good idea as I've no very heavy furniture to lug around. Anybody used this type of thing?
Start sorting through stuff room by room and arranging things in boxes. Label each box with the room name so that they can easily be identified. Also make sure you only take what you really want to keep and need. Either sell or donate to charity any unwanted items. I have also used freecycle in the past, as well as reaching out to local charities for larger items to be collected from home.
Love the idea of having a hamper. Usually I keep a kettle and some teabags handy. Oh and some jaffa cakes to ensure we have a treat and lower any anxieties.
Completely agree that rents are sky high. But I guess, as a former accidental landlord, one only charges the market rates. Not all Landlords are wealthy and still have mortgages to cover as I did. Plus, not all tenants are so forthcoming with their rent payments. I have only been stung once. Generally most of my tenants have been thoroughly decent. I sold the property in summer 2015.
