Shoes Indoors?

Ask a Question

Do you take your shoes off when you go to someones house?

I always do as I was raised that way, but don't mind if people keep theirs on at mine.

In some houses I do and think it’s good manners to as long as you have socks on! No one wants to see your feet indoors. I take a spare pair of slippers. Having said that in other houses people haven’t and I couldn’t really expect it at mine. My carpet is now filthy and worn out and I’m considering replacing. If I do then in future it’s definitely shoes off!

Yes I do in most. But am easy going at mine as tiled in kitchen diner and most people are gracious enough to take off shoes when entering the carpeted living room.

SamGoodship yes I have no problem telling them, we had a new kitchen last year, workmen were told, you could tell with their face they didn't like it

I used to but now it’s difficult to take them off and more so trying to put them back on I don’t but people understand.

Yes, I always do even if I haven’t got socks on. My feet are going to be cleaner than the bottom of my shoes. I have a sign on my door which says. Life is full of choices, remove your shoes or scrub the floor

jane100 OMG! No way would I remove my shoes if someone's carpet is dirty, or they have got pets. I would find an excuse not to enter their home. I have never been asked to remove my shoes or ask people to remove theirs!

I respect the wished of the house owner. A couple of our friends do prefer you to take shoes off but most like us really are not fussed.

It's personal choice, some people want you to take shoes off before entering their home, some don't, I always offer to but sometimes I'm told I don't have to take shoes off..

We take our shoes off and expect guests to do the same, and we have a sign saying all footwear to be removed. Please

And when we go to someone's

Home, we always remove footwear

When you consider the dirt on pavements both from people and animals (!) surely no-one can really consider keeping your shoes on when you get home or enter someone else's house?
