Shortage of Tea!

In the News

I’m not a tea drinker myself but coffee is my drink. However, my husband and family drink it. Hope people don’t go mad and make it worse, like the loo roll in pandemic! 😳. Something to do with the shipping the long way round.

My mother is tea-aholic or whatever someone is called who relies on about 15 cups of tea a day. I think she has about 4 or 5 early in the morning and then they get spaced out more during the rest of the day. I can see her going cold turkey if she runs out of tea. It will be like a re-enactment of the Shining where her head breaks through a door and she screams at me to get her some tea. My house is only a 3 minute walk away so I'm in the danger zone. I shall probably start winding her up a bit too by saying the supermarket shelves are empty of tea even if the shelves are full just to see the reaction. I'll pretend someone beat me to the last box of tea bags in the store. I like to live dangerously.

BonzoBanana 😂 You are cruel to your mum! I can understand though as I don’t think I could function well without my coffee either but I don’t drink quite that much! I don’t think we will ‘run out’ it’s just going to take much longer to arrive here.

HEDGEHOGS I don’t think it’s really a shortage as such but a delay in getting here so less supply.

The temp shortage is due to the ships taking a longer journey. No doubt after the news announcement lots will be stocking up.

How do we even know If Its true. Its hear say at the moment. We all know how the Supermarkets say this and say that and they are the ones that Is ripping us off. DEFRA says differently as they are the ones who trades for us.

Emerge11 Yes the news is not always helpful and it’s probably more of a ‘might be’ than a ‘definite’. No need to panic.

I read this yesterday and agree, with this scaremongering you probably won't be able to find a tea bag for love nor money soon!

It is possible to get 2 cups out of 1 bag if desperate measures. Not quite the same though.

JLouM I don't think that is desperate measures some teabags are strong enough for a teapot of tea (which is what many cafes do) and others are reduced strength designed for a single cup. I must admit if I'm making tea for my mother I put the teabag in her cup first as she likes her tea strong and then move it to mine as I don't like tea as strong. I could probably make 1 normal teabag do 3 or 4 cups of tea for the type of strength I like. When having tea at Morrisons cafe I will often refill the teapot with hot water to get some extra tea out of it. They don't mind that but they do mind of course if you were to pick up a new teapot with a fresh teabag in.

sarah4701 I don’t think it’s really started yet and it might not even happen. Think it’s more of a might be because of the delay.

There will be a shortage now because everyone is going to panic buy. So I'm going to have to get some just to make sure I have tea for awhile. I can't drink coffee gives me headaches.

Better warn our Student Radiographer daughter, she was all ready saying that there was a shortage of Eggs in Leeds Sainsburys & Lidl near where she lived opposite LG the other week when she was homeI!

Our daughter loves her Tae,everything from Lady Grey to YORKSHIRE, loves a good cuppa!

I drink decaffeinated tea- but I get the big bags off Amazon as it works out cheaper that way. The bags have 440 tea bags in them. I drink my tea weak so am happy to use a tea bag for two cups.

It will probably be the lack of caffeine that will affect people unless they already drink decaffeinated. When i came off the caffeine I had headaches and was stroppy and moody for at least a month
