Shrove Tuesday.Carnivals and Pancakes
In the News
Shrove Tuesday today so the Catholics among us will be eating pancakes ahead of the beginining of Lent and a period of abstinence. Many start with a celebration. The Mardi Gras in New Orleans is one of many carnivals taking place at this time. There are pancake races up and down the country as well and I am sure even secular folk like to eat pancakes today.I like mine in traditional style with sugar and lemon. How do you all favour them?
Me too, lemon and sugar. I eat them whenever I like but strangely enough not often on the actual day. No more than 4/5 times per year though.
Lynibis No more than twice a year for me.Not averse to eating any leftovers tomorrow even if it is Lent.I will fast from something else like being grumpy or rude lol.
Definitely not religious, but normally do pancake day. MrsChimp didn't fancy any this year though.
Sugar and lemon here
TheChimp I feel oh so holy stuffing my face. Then I anxiously hold forth for hot cross buns at Easter.I'm not the most disciplined soul on the planet lol.
I don’t really keep to the religious thing but I do enjoy pancakes on the day and even some other times. They have to be the thin crepe type, don’t like the thick ones.
Oh no I totally didn't realise it was pancake day, I'm just about to dish up a roast chicken, lol
slightfoot It’s ok! Enjoy your roast chicken. You can have pancakes any time (if you are not strictly religious about it).
MelissaLee1 I was that someone this year, they don't seem to put it on the telly like they used to, wen I was a kid I could always rely on the jiffy lemon adverts
slightfoot ,Rather have Poached Eggs done by my partner...
Or make my own version of Scrambled Eggs containing,Cheese,Ham,Leek & Cumin..
MelissaLee1 ,They are absolutely delicious, see daughter & I like experimenting, trying different flavours as you can tell from her Ginger Pancakes with Dark Chocolate Drizzle recipe.
Give Jangy's Scrambled Eggs a try,you won't regret it,don't go to heavy on the Cumin though..
Works well,Cheese,Spring Onion & Cumin Scrambled Eggs.
There's a who lot of flavours to be discovered so get experimenting!
janphoenix51 I'm not the most adventurous cook but I do love spices .Eggs can be quite eggciting lol.
MelissaLee1 ...Eggs are pantastic, Fried,Boiled,Scrambled, Poached,as an Omelette, as Eggy Bread, Eggs are soo versatile & good for you as long as you DON'T eat too many hard boiled ones!!
