Is the Sign Language and Voice Dialogue Compulsory on Tv?

Ask a Question

Let me say immediately that I wholeheartedly endorse any measures that enable deaf or blind folk to enjoy tv as much as I do.

However, just lately i have noticed more programmes having these aids with no way of switching them off if not needed. Maybe i am an exception but i find it terribly distracting to hear descriptions of what i am seeing or a small person onscreen signing.

Is there a way of turning these off? I have searched my settings.

In these days of tech and smart tv i cannot believe they are unable to turn these off for those who don't need them.

I find it distracting too especially when the picture, audio description and subtitles aren't in sync

Imnotcheap I know it's not the same but I was watching a film with son and daughter in law recently and we were bemused by a foreign language conversation. About 20 seconds later the subtitles popped up!

Leannexxx ha ha, that made me laugh. I am too lazy to think of getting up and kicking the tv but a few choice words and well aimed remote is quite likely soon.

Leannexxx sometimes if you rewind and start again it rights itself. It is annoying though. But I think little people signing and people describing the scene is intolerable.
