This replaces the old European Health Insurance Card (EHIC). I signed up today and an hour or so later I received an email saying the card's dispatched.

Pjran While the U.K. card looks nicer, the EU one has more advantages.

Only for use in the European continent despite being called "Global Health Insurance Card" which is confusing.
Note: The EU card is apparently only available for those with a EU citizenship, huh.
PhilipMarc it’s a shame Norway isn’t covered now but I do always take out travel insurance.
Thank you.This post proved a very useful memory jogger as I had forgotten to check out my EHIC card which turned out to have expired.Applied on line which soon came through as correct and the new card is now in the post.
Thank you for sharing this update for replacing the old EHIC card. My old one had expired so I will take a look at replacing with a new one. I will let other family members know how to update too.

jms19 As of right now, the U.K. EHIC is significantly better than the GHIC because it includes more European countries.
Even though they call it "Global," it only features the European continent (kinda weird for something so-called Global).
However, on a technical aspect, the GHIC card does look nicer.
I got mine about 6 months ago and it arrived within a few days - can definitely come in handy
I think I signed up for this months ago, but I can’t remember if I received it or not as I don’t have a clue where I might have put it. I’ll have to look for it. Thanks for the reminder!
