What does everyone do when they can’t sleep? Do people have routines they follow which helps them to sleep? I normally can sleep but tonight I can’t
I normally do sleep so I do know what it is just last night it wasn’t happening which was frustrating
- Keep a consistent sleep schedule. Get up at the same time every day, even on weekends or during vacations.
- Set a bedtime that is early enough for you to get at least 7 hours of sleep.
- Don’t go to bed unless you are sleepy.
- If you don’t fall asleep after 20 minutes, get out of bed.
- Establish a relaxing bedtime routine.
- Use your bed only for sleep and sex.
- Make your bedroom quiet and relaxing. Keep the room at a comfortable, cool temperature.
- Limit exposure to bright light in the evenings.
- Turn off electronic devices at least 30 minutes before bedtime.
- Don’t eat a large meal before bedtime. If you are hungry at night, eat a light, healthy snack.
- Exercise regularly and maintain a healthy diet.
- Avoid consuming caffeine in the late afternoon or evening.
- Avoid consuming alcohol before bedtime.
- Reduce your fluid intake before bedtime.

Thank you I’m hoping I sleep tonight as normal but if not I will be trying the tips on this list thank you
I don't know what sleep is at the moment! I dont have any trouble sleeping, my problem is my son has been up every hour the last few nights as teething pain has woken him and he needs comforting to go back to sleep.
I use a skill on my echo 5 and its been fantastic. playing a sound for 60 mins while going to sleep has worked wonders
Oh I feel your pain. I’m a bad sleeper but when you’re uncomfortable because of leg pain even after taking medication there’s absolutely nothing you can do. I prefer to sit upright in a comfy chair than just lying in bed. I don’t put the tv on instead I play backgammon online. You will find a way of passing those hours when most others are asleep. You’re not alone honest.
That is all very well Pjran but you need your sleep otherwise lack of it will exacerbate your health issues. I am a great fan of essential oils/aromatherapy but I can't recommend which oils for you without knowing what the pain is caused by. However, I am also a fan of turmeric and if you look up turmeric and black pepper on Amazon, go to the best seller and read the reviews you will find many folk have come off medication as a result of trying it.
I'm a terrible sleeper, it doesn't come easy for me. I find it very hard to 'turn off'. I drink a tea every night now that I get from Holland & barratt. It's called bedtime by yogi teas. I find it does help me relax. Il often listen to relaxing sleep music too. ( loads on youtube)
I'm really bad, i will get my laptop out and find something to watch, I'll either choose something i want to watch, or put anything on and leave it on in the background and try and sleep, not good habits I know
Your brain is torn between getting to sleep and the distraction of the laptop. Your mind and body would tell you it needs total darkness and quiet (and a comfortable bed) in order to sleep well so yes, it is not a good habit and you really need to try and break it. Your poor brain is being tortured by not being allowed to switch off!
Have you tried the pillow spray by this works? It is amazing and smells lovely too. I have seen them on offer in tkmaxx too
