Something You Resent Paying For?
Ask a Question
What's something you resent paying for?
Mine is the gas, it costs too much to keep warm now.
Water bill. I feel like something essential for life should be free and paying for it feels like the sunlight tax from the 1700s
DanielleMcK1992 I know- back in my day (growing up in 60s& 70s) my mum had water bill included in rent- it was about a fiver &it was listed as part of the rent charge- even private or council homes it was all same.
DanielleMcK1992 dont mention the sunlight tax or Jeremy Hunt will be straight onto it to bring it back
DanielleMcK1992 that's my pet hate, because it's far too expensive. Water companies continually fail to repair leaks that waste billions of gallons, and have been allowed to pollute our waterways, which saves them money and ruins our ecology. Privatising everything was the biggest tory con of them all.
gothvixen exactly! They pollute our waterways and are now on about increasing our water bills to pay for repairs etc we're looking at a possible increase of £11 per household. I did a survey not long ago that was asking if people would be willing to pay an extra £35 x
I dont know why in some areas folk on a benefit pay nothing or almost nothing yet in other areas same benefit & are charged almost the full council tax bill?
Water bill, constantly goes up every year, then in summer told to cut down, yet don't reduce the bill, then there is the TV licence
got rid of tv licence. The price of electricity and gas ,i think these big companies are milking us for all we got .Think about it they make billions
greenmist22 Most of all, the standing charge for lekky and gas - even if you're a low user or you're away for a week and don't use any energy, you're still paying a few hundred each year for nothing.
TV license, council tax, parking permit for parking outside your own house, road tax when they don’t even look after the roads, resent paying for MPs and their lavish lifestyle, and for covid tests
Toilets , Luckily in my local town Toilet Facilities are free , but particularly during the summer when we travel to different tourist areas , we come across toilets where they expect you to pay which i think is totally wrong, these should be funded by the local councils.
I recently had to pay my vets an admin charge for filling out a direct claim form, that they made me find, fill out and send
I resent being asked to pay to ensure I receive a parcel.
I recently ordered a jumper online, it was around £50 with another £4 Postage and Packing.
Then on the checkout page I get asked if I'd like to pay an additional £3 so that I am covered in case the parcel gets lost in transit.
Unless I've missed something it is very much the senders problem if I don't receive a parcel, not mine.
Needless to say I didn't pay this insurance premium.
They were also the sort of company that asked if I'd like to tip the warehouse workers who fulfilled my order - again that was a big fat no.
TheChimp If it weren't for the fact I can't get the jumper elsewhere I'd have told them to take a jump.
I resented paying for the TV License and when the price of electricity/gas went up too I decided enough was enough. I gave my TV to one of my neighbours, much to their delight and got a projector. I have cream walls so I can use the projector to watch ITVX or youtube as large as I like without paying for a TV license or the high amount of electricity my old TV used.
Many things already mentioned but another couple are prescription charges, especially those with lifelong conditions(such as asthma/aps/lupus etc) that are not self inflicted medical conditions and another is menstruation products!
Tv licence Council tax and tariff on gas and electric so it costs even if you’ve no used any, especially when there making millions and people are struggling to pay there bills
automatically added service charge when eating out. It should be my choice whether or not to add a gratuity
Tv licence and the extra I pay for having a pre pay meter I am paying before I use it now is that dearer than paying after I've used it ???
HappyComperZoe get rid of it then! I totally agree with you that the BBC is rubbish, but so are the other channels. I got rid of mine years ago and it’s easy and painless
Gosh looking at some of the things mentioned above I’m glad I live in Northern Ireland. We don’t have council tax, water bills r prescription charges. Especially now I take so much medication for fibro and now Addisons disease. I dread bill for tv licence each yr cos I don’t think we get value for money anymore plus price of gas at min. Used to be I’d never have to put on my emergency gas but feel like I’m running out of gas on regular basis now even though I’m not turning on heating anymore than usual etc. Another is parking charges, they’ve got so expensive recently. Even have to pay to park at my local drs now since they moved premises. Recently changed electric companies and my electric has halved in price this month so at least that’s some savings
Many things already mentioned, apart from standing charge on utility bills. Why do we have to pay for that?
Water bill is definitely my hate as mentioned why pay for something that is basically essential and may I add falls freely from the sky.
TV licence is really too high and I find it shameful that if you're blind you get 50% concession, really. Also Toilet charges when you're abroad.
The all over price for cost of living these days, as others have stated, gas, elec, petrol, food etc.
The TV licence. Standing charges for gas/ electricity. Other than that we never really had it so good.
Hospital car parking fees are horrendous £18 a day. My baby granddaughter was admitted with mother staying so her car is just bumping up daily fees.
Council tax ,all I see from it is my bins being emptied ,National insurance ,work tax....just to pay for the lazy c***s who won't work and think it's their god given right to get everything free.
I keep seeing TV licence on this thread but it's really not that difficult to stop watching the BBC and stream other channels rather than watch them live. You can opt out of buying the TV licence. I think its averaging something like 1/2 million homes cancelling their TV licence per year.
Car insurance when an accident in a second car affects the insurance on the first
TV licencing - needing a licence to watch Netflix
Car Parking [I do try very hard not to do this!] - especially at Hospitals
10% or more Booking fees on already expensive tickets
Plastic bags - I always have my own and would rather find a way to carry items without if I’ve forgotten one
