Spending Too Much at Christmas
Other
Who is guilty of over spending at xmas? I think we need to re consider what Christmas is about and try turn the over commercialisation around!
Time is what we should be spending
I have never over spent at Xmas. I set a budget for presents and for food and I stick to it. We only buy for our parents, granny and brother in law, so only spend a certain amount on each person and it is just the two of us for dinner so we don't need a lot of food.
Yeah there really is no need to buy for everyone you know. we’ve been drawn into it where you feel the need to get a gift to show you care
My parents told me not to worry about getting them a present this year. We are ignoring Christmas this year due to personal circumstances (not money related) and my dad said I had more important things to focus on! As someone else has said, those who know your circumstances understand!
I agree it's presence not presents that's important. Those who know and love you know your circumstances so you do not need debt to show them you care
Fortunately, I have never been in that situation as I always buy bits and bobs throughout the year instead of leaving it all to the last minute.
I agree, and I very much believe that people should try to make gifts opposed to just buying them, as it's more meaningful. However, I do like buying things people like, and then choose to make the cards or be creative with the gift wrapping instead. It all depends on what you can afford
I agree - people tend to overbuy during Xmas. I like to look for bargains so pound land is a must go during this time. They do some really good christmas decorations, cheap snacks and nice little gifts that you can include in someones present. Defo worth a visit before going to your local store!
Yes we should be spending more time with family and less spending on material things which will eventually rot away into the abyss never to be seen again. Well except goods made of plastic which will litter landfill sites for millennia!
