Letting Steak Rest

Ask a Question

We’re having steak tonight and my husband does all the cooking since I’ve become unsteady on my feet. I suggested he grill the steak then remove it a lay a piece of foil on top and cover with a tea towel.

He says it’ll be cold to eat.

How do you cook yours please?

On the rare occasions I have steak I follow the instructions on the pack (I usually get Sainsbury's fillet). Fry on both sides, after oiling the meat not the pan, and then in oven for 9 minutes and for my taste it is perfect every time.

I wouldn't normally put the oven on for one piece of steak but I use my smaller oven and also cook tomato, onion, mushrooms and jacket potato or chips.

I always leave it to rest . It doesn’t get cold.

julie781x he followed my instructions, makes a change, it was cooked to perfection. I’m sure resting the meat makes it tender.

Sorry Pjran

In my opinion it's just a a load of rubbish put about by overpaid chef's with nothing better to fill their time and the same goes for double and tripple fried chips total nonsense

the taste and goodness is just the same if it is left alone. 🍽️

Fitchet ooh I beg to differ. Double cooked chips are absolutely delicious and crisper.

Fitchet as an “over paid chef” of 12 years I can assure you I’m not on websites like this because I’m overpaid 😂 chefs as a trade are known To be highly skilled but hugely underpaid. good job we don’t do it for the money chef👩‍🍳

I usually cook it to the time for medium on the packaging and then let it rest on a piece of kitchen towel for a few minutes.

Normally they say allow to rest, for half the cooking time, it’s so it relaxes and tender. It’s never cold as I’m sure you wouldn’t forget about it. Always make sure the steak is out of fridge at least half hour before cooking too.

LL81 yes bring the meat to room temperature. I did remind him to take it out the fridge about an hour before cooking.

I take the steak from the fridge to come back to room temperature, oil and season both sides and fry until medium, then let it stand for about 5 minutes, delicious.
