The human brain is such a strange and delicately balanced mechanism, that really is an odd one. Maybe we can all add one? My contribution is ailurophobia, fear of cats, not that I personally fear them, just don't like them!🐈🐈🐈

Have a strange suspicion I suffer with Oikophobia, it has become strangely worse since I became disabled as it hurts to move around lol. I dare say there are quite a few of us who have this and just didn't know the name for it - Oikophobia = the fear of housework

EmmaWright762 I think it's probably only natural that our brain would order our body to steer away from anything that causes pain. But you're right many don't have a fear of it they just don't like doing it😀

EmmaWright762 I don't mind housework but I am far from obsessive. Not a neat freak like some.I wouldn't like to be cooped up indoors all day .I love walking but my mobility is on a downward turn and it hurts to move about so much these days so I am much less motivated.

I'm not a fan of spiders and wasps. Not sure it is a phobia, I do get scared if a wasp comes near me but that is because I'm allergic to their stings.

MrsCraig I used to be petrified of spiders not leastly cos I have been bitten by a few.Had to have an injection in Australia. But it's quite an illogical fear which I learnt to counter with self hypnosis.I am not mad on wasps cos I was stung by a hornet once and also attacked by wasps on the plot Bees I love.

MelissaLee1 I am fine with small spiders but big ones definitely scare me. Always get my husband to deal with them.

I use to have a phobia for small people but gradually over the years I have over come this. Also spiders were a real fear. Not a fan of snakes but I did hold a few years back.

eyeballkerry how strange...2 close friends have that fear of small people. One of them watched Cyrano with me and it really helped her and she now really likes Peter Dinklage and has watched the film 3 times.

Leannexxx I have something similar going on with Olives.I revisit them every few years to see If I can 'grow out' of it.I have made them big purple and cuddly and tasting of sherbert in my mind but they just sneak back in as little green slime monsters or dead people's eyes.

Don't like being around large crowds, it's not an irrational fear, but more of a concern of personal safety.

I used to be afraid of cockroaches after one crawled up my leg and on to my chest.I hated those wriggly antennae on their heads.I used to run round the room when I saw one but now that I have cats, none come in the house. This is in Spain where I stay when I can.

Elevators (or lifts in the U.K.)

There was one time I was a kid and was with my mom or dad, and it stopped halfway. So ever since I don't like using them if it happens again (and I tend to look at the date it was last checked).

You can find videos of elevators dropping and crushing a person, but don't really recommend doing so unless you're into true crime or what have you.

I think all my phobias are logical phobias where there is a risk to my safety like a fear of heights. I don't mean looking out of a window in a skycraper type fear but being up a ladder 30 feet high etc where I might fall. My mother has a fear of snakes but again that is a logical fear as many are venomous or constrictors etc so extremely dangerous although admittedly she is still terrified of slow worms which really can't harm her.

BonzoBanana I'm not very good at heights either.Had to do a trust exercice with colleagues on an open roof quite recently. It took me what seemed like an eternity walking forwards into what to me seemed like oblivion with my eyes closed even though someone was watching waiting to guide or catch!I often liasewith high end psychiatric clients.I'm not afraid of bombs, guns, knifes or threatening behaviour but heights terrify me!

BonzoBanana I worked in secured housing for clients in recovery programmes or under behavioural observation. Many have 'history'.I used to check rooms everyday and administer meds under lock and key.Add arsonists. We had one of those as well!

Arachibutyrophobia is the intense, irrational fear of peanut butter sticking to the roof of one's mouth, likely related to an inability to open one's mouth or a fear of choking. I think it is the least common phobia

I have a phobia of lifts and fear that I will get stuck between floors and all the lights go out. I also find some lifts slow to open and I start to feel uneasy.Wherever possible,🏃‍♀️ I use the stairs which is good exercise anyway.
