Stricter Fines for Dog Poo?

Ask a Question

Should we be stricter about Dogs messing on footpaths?

In England, you can fined on the spot £50 and it can go up way more if taken to court. I feel like I'm always side stepping it on paths and down alleys, so should they be doing more about it?

I think we should yes, it’s far worse than littering imo. Thing is how do they enforce it, most people aren’t stupid enough to leave dog mess infront of enforcement officers etc

jms19 Yeah it's rare you hear of it being enforced, because how can they do it really? The dog would have to be doing it right infront of an enforcement offer or someone have some kind of video proof....

We live relatively close to a forest and of course lots of dog walkers use it but some although they pick up and use poo bags then hang them on trees!

SamGoodship it really doesn’t make sense they can carry it in the bag and use as a hand warmer 😉

I think more bins are needed tbh.

HappyComperZoe Theres a lot of bins where I am. For instance on my road alone there are 3 public bins and on the field where there is a lot of dog walkers there are 5 bins. Still lots of dog poo around.

I posted about this a few weeks ago, there are already calls for DNA testing of dog poo in germany to find the culprit owners www.thetimes.co.uk/article/dna-plan-to-catch-dog-owners-who-leave-mess-3nht09pvl

Its easy to increase the fines etc but unless they actually do more to catch people then its a waste of time. More bins would help but its not unusual to find dog poo on the ground even when there are bins available

It is absolutely despicable owners that do this . I’m a dog owner and always pick up my dogs mess , and place it in a bin . I once saw a bloke who let his dog 💩and walked on leaving it steaming on the ground . I caught him up and gave him a poo bag and told him it’s for when he returns to pick up the 💩 he left behind … he looked very embarrassed … tough luck sunshine. I’d be an enforcer any day of the week and issue fines ….

Yeah they should but it's finding the owner who's left it it's disgusting the amount of times my kids has walked into it on the pavements

If you asked all dog owners they will say they pick it up and it isn't them. Bring back capital punishment

There's only one problem with my Harvey the woofer and that's when he goes walking, he doesn't poo properly and it sprays out like wee, probably because he gets excited and doesn't go out that often, so there's no chance of picking it up. It's always on grass where people don't go though, but makes it impossible. But if he does a normal poo, we always have bags to pick it up.

I don't know what else we can do tbh.

Yes. Someone let their dog go right behind a parking bay of a supermarket and left it. My child nearly stepped in it as we were going into the boot. It disgusting. Our national park by me is full of it. Not helped by dog walkers that take more dogs then they can actually cope with snd don't clear up because they can't see what they are doing

Just been reading in the news recently that in an Italian province dog owners are being forced to provide a sample of their pets DNA to tackle the scourge of dog mess on the streets. Sounds like a very good idea.
