Jackscot Which items do you prefer in Lidl than Aldi?

Or why do you not like Aldi?

I usually go to Aldi because the location is more convenient.

I tend to use vouchers for supermarket shops and keep to value brands and offers mainly. So I strangely find Aldi the most expensive as they never supply vouchers. Obviously M&S and Waitrose are more expensive but I don't use those shops except for very occasional very minor shops. I'm using £4.50 off £30 vouchers for Sainsburys at the moment so Sainsburys definitely the cheapest for me as they match many Aldi prices anyway and I actually find their range and quality much better generally. Recently used Tesco vouchers before Christmas and got discounted Morrison's gift cards using topcashback's £2 bonus cashback with a £10 purchase and purchased 3x£10 morrison's giftcards (3 topcashback accounts).

I probably find Tesco cheapest overall for the sort of purchases I make and love their fruit and veg section which has some great prices and decent quality too.

I prefer Lidl to Aldi. I love Aldi but I only go for a few specific items. I prefer Lidl because I can get everything I need in there, the layout makes more sense than Aldi (although that might just be my local store) plus I have the app so save even more.

Always use Asda as it’s the cheapest and I can buy everything I need online. I occasionally use Sainsburys or Ocado if I get a voucher sent.

I can't do a full shop at Aldi, no. It's only good for a regular top-up of specific items.. especially as it's a bit of a way further than my local supermarkets.

We use Sainsburys the most, it has a good choice of products with everything we need in one store , They also have the Aldi Price match on many items, together with Nectar Card prices & Offers, and obviously Nectar points which we generally save for Christmas.

It depends on where I am. If I'm near them at the time and if I have time to prepare then other stores can work out better.

I do love many Aldi's alternatives, they are tasty and much cheaper than many branded products.

BUT Aldi say they don't need a loyalty card as they have the cheaper products overall, but if you collect points as well as having Clubcard deals, then actually they aren't technically always the cheapest.

Plus I love the cashback apps, Jam Doughnut only occasionally have Aldi on there, otherwise the apps like Shopmium, Green Jinn and Checkout Smart don't usually have any products from Aldi, but many for other supermarkets, so some items you can 100% cashback so the item is essentially free.

I like that our Aldi also have a recycling point for soft plastics and a few other things, some other stores don't. Plus A lot of Aldi packaging is recyclable in some sense, unlike what I found with Lidl.

They all have their good and bad points.

Tesco and Aldi are my 'Go To' shops.

I tend to shop where I have vouchers mostly but its difficult to say which is cheapest but it certainly isn't Waitrose or M&S. I would just say the cheapest supermarket is which ever I have vouchers for at the time. I guess without vouchers for my normal shopping probably Tesco overall because it would be a simple one shop shop that I could get everything in with just one car journey. My local Tesco is by far the largest supermarket in my area with a full range of value items. Also for the items I buy that are value priced I found Tesco the best quality overall.

Two things I hate about Iceland and Farmfoods that knocks down their value is they don't do enough of their own brands. It's like you go into either for cereal and its all high cost branded products that I almost never buy unless seriously discounted. These stores have an even more limited range of products than Lidl or Aldi for me as there is too much big brand stuff which I won't pay for. I'm surprised when they have seen how Aldi and Lidl have succeeded with fake brands that they haven't caught on they need to do this. I think Iceland is headquartered in Wales and Farmfoods in Scotland and they really need to look more at the landscape of supermarkets in this country. I feel both could do much better if they rethought their line up. They both have a lot of their own branded products but it just doesn't spread across the whole range of items available so literally for some items you can't get anything in those stores due to excessive pricing. So if you want to get some cereal in your shop you immediately remove Iceland and Farmfoods as an option, same for many other products in those stores. Farmfoods and Iceland are both focused on frozen food which is the healthiest way of preserving food without having to add a huge amount of additives. I'd like to use them a lot more.

I have never shopped in Aldi in this country but the other week thought I would pick up a few items. The mango chutney was fine but can get it cheaper in Farmfoods. The cheese Doritos, their own make was awful, what a waste of money.

eyeballkerry I find a lot of processed food in Aldi very poor quality and an unacceptable quality but some items are good. You end up learning what is good and bad from each supermarket which is why it gets annoying when its clear a supermarket has changed factory for an item and suddenly the quality has dropped. Aldi seem to put the same labels on completely different tinned fish at times, so stuff like sardines, tuna and salmon is a lottery what quality you will get. I had some sardines from there and it was speckled throughout the contents and very soft and mushy it looked like it had decomposed for a week before being put in the tin. I'm sure an earlier tin with the same label was really good quality perhaps a month before. I think the pre-packed meat is good quality in Aldi and you can see the quality of their fruit and veg anyway so I just avoid that when poor quality. It's really their low grade long life processed food often imported which I don't get on with. I dislike their tinned soups mainly due to bland taste rather than being unpleasant though.

Been using farm foods lately, good offers and reasonable prices on items. Bread and ham I get from M&S though.

Not Asda!! I think Asda is so expensive and the shelves are always empty and you can’t get what you want. I do like Tesco and find it cheaper, I also use Aldi

Not a fan of Aldi, but it’s good for people who are on a low income. We use Tesco and have for years, it’s a good price as well as quality products 🙂.
