FAQs
- What about Lidl, Co-Op, Savers, Poundland etc.?
We don't track these places at present. We may do in future.
- What products do you track?
We don't want to say exactly what products for a variety of reasons, but it is a common basket of goods that form the 20 most bought products. We find the cheapest available option for the same size.
- Iceland seems wrong, it's not that expensive
Iceland is a unique supermarket because it doesn't sell much of it's own brand goods. Basic items, such as those we tend to collect data on, tend to be more expensive at Iceland. Iceland does sell other items, such as large packs of frozen meat, at cheaper prices than other supermarkets - however we don't necessarily track all those product prices for the purposes of this.
- How can I compare prices myself?

I haven't noticed prices going down yet in any of the supermarkets we use, in fact they are still increasing in the big names like Tesco and Asda. Some of the general everyday used items like milk and bread have stayed the same for quite some time though.
There needs to be a push from consumer representing groups to force the decrease we should have seen by now.
tmcelligott yeah that's the same story for us, prices are continuing to go up not down
I always compare the price of certain items using Lastest Deals Supermarket Comparison tool BEFORE I go to the Supermarket to do my shopping that way I m getting value for money..
Aldi at the top which is the only supermarket without a loyalty scheme. I personally don't find Aldi that good but its my nearest supermarket so do buy some items from them but don't find it great value overall. These price comparisons are only on a small selection of items which can be manipulated and Aldi has a limited range of goods compared to many other supermarkets so can be very inconvenient with fuel wasted having to go to another supermarket to get your full shop. Aldi put a higher margin it seems on slower moving items as some items are very uncompetitively priced.
A price comparison without telling people what exactly is being compared is completely pointless in my opinion.
I wasn't aware you had a price comparison tool but will look into downloading this, as I've come to the conclusion that shopping around is the best way to save at the moment x
Karen331 Definitely shop around and register with all supermarkets for loyalty schemes. I typically shop with my mother who lives nearby and between us it seems like we always have a discount voucher between us and we are both single and live alone so one such shop is enough for both of us. I find I have a core selection of stuff I like at every supermarket pretty much. Tesco is my favourite as we have a fantastic Tesco store in Yeovil with a huge range but all the supermarkets seem to offer great value and quality options for some of their products.
