FAQs
- What about Lidl, Co-Op, Savers, Poundland etc.?
We don't track these places at present. We may do in future.
- What products do you track?
We don't want to say exactly what products for a variety of reasons, but it is a common basket of goods that form the 20 most bought products. We find the cheapest available option for the same size.
- Iceland seems wrong, it's not that expensive
Iceland is a unique supermarket because it doesn't sell much of it's own brand goods. Basic items, such as those we tend to collect data on, tend to be more expensive at Iceland. Iceland does sell other items, such as large packs of frozen meat, at cheaper prices than other supermarkets - however we don't necessarily track all those product prices for the purposes of this.
- How can I compare prices myself?

ill be honest the price of the food shopping is really starting to bother me. im having to really be careful what we buy in order to make the most amount of meals out of it.
I can’t understand why people don’t think Iceland is expensive!??
Iceland is primarily a frozen food store and has some good deals. But other grocery items are all branded and cost more than own brand products in other supermarkets.
Fatabelly Iceland definitely need to have more of their own brand non frozen food. There is more profit for them on own brand despite being cheaper and perhaps that would help offset the energy costs of operating so many freezers in each store with the energy price increases. Definitely looking less competitive nowadays.
My 2 local Icelands in Manchester have got really expensive especially on cupboard stuff and fresh food, in fact it's the most expensive out of the stores I shop at for what i buy anyway, I also shop at Asda,Aldi, B&M&s, Quality Save, I've now stopped shopping in iceland, the prices are going up everywhere as we know but some of the prices in iceland are ridiculous
Iceland use to be my go to store but not anymore. They have gone ridiculously expensive. Its the retailers thats making the profits out of us the shoppers because they know they can. I do an online search before I go out then decide what I want. Greed Is how It Is.
Not so long ago Aldi's filtered milk 2.5litres was 99p is started creeping up and is now £1.75 or £1.79...l have no words...
Pinkspirit and the farmers have had a milk price reduction - just pure greed from the supermarkets
Pinkspirit I have used this filter milk for a long time now and can't beleive just how it has rocketed in price.
TiaTia l was annoyed and embarrassed the first time it started going up as l only took the amount of cash out just to get milk...hence not having enough cash on me
It would be interesting to see the list of 20 commonly bought products. For the shopping I do I don't find these price comparisons very accurate at all. I go into Waitrose occasionally and buy just a couple items just to get the free coffee. I tend to buy only their most competitively priced products I think I bought bananas were were 90p kg and their double cream which was £2.25 for 600ml but most of their prices seem more expensive to iceland to me. 20 commonly bought products is not in anyway a realistic comparison for a shop selling thousands of item and if the supermarket knows the 20 most commonly bought items it may well do those prices cheaper anyway. 20 randomly chosen items could be more useful which keeps changing so stores couldn't manipulate their pricing.
I use to shop at Iceland all the times but now I don't bother even going the curry I use it get had gone from £1.25 and now it's £3.00 no thanks not for me I shop around between Morrison, farmfoods home bargains and aldi just to try and keep the cost down
I shop mostly in Lidl, Aldi for certain items and Asda for the rest. I've noticed that the prices of everything I buy have been going up. I have stopped buying certain things as they have gotten too expensive.
