FAQs

  • What about Lidl, Co-Op, Savers, Poundland etc.?

We don't track these places at present. We may do in future.

  • What products do you track?

We don't want to say exactly what products for a variety of reasons, but it is a common basket of goods that form the 20 most bought products. We find the cheapest available option for the same size.

  • Iceland seems wrong, it's not that expensive

Iceland is a unique supermarket because it doesn't sell much of it's own brand goods. Basic items, such as those we tend to collect data on, tend to be more expensive at Iceland. Iceland does sell other items, such as large packs of frozen meat, at cheaper prices than other supermarkets - however we don't necessarily track all those product prices for the purposes of this.

  • How can I compare prices myself?

Thank you for putting this on here and will hopefully help some people but I have found that cheapest is not always best and I prefer to pay more for a better quality of food that I enjoy eating, not just eating it because it’s cheap. I appreciate some people do not have the choice.

Waitrose keeps saying prices are going down. In the channel islands we have a choice of Waitrose, the Coop or franchises of Iceland and Morrison. Both are owned by the same company so doesn't count as the prices are extortionate and a lot higher then the uk. Jersey is more expensive than London to live in. The cost of living is higher then the uk. Its so cheap in the uk then Jersey. I'd leave but my oh won't leave

I know I keep writing the same but I can't see much point in this. 20 common items that Latestdeals selects and won't say what they are is utterly meaningless. 20 random items would be better so it couldn't be manipulated and if that item isn't available in certain supermarkets they should be punished in the ratings because that means more fuel and time to go to another supermarket to get it. When I go into Lidls or Aldi I rarely spend more than £10 in there as a lot of stuff isn't available that I like. I'll admit I tend to rotate which supermarkets I use, Aldi, Asda, Lidls, Morrisons, Sainburys, Tesco, Iceland and even Waitrose and M&S occasionally. The best for me is Tesco, Asda and Sainsburys as there is a wide range of goods, many great offers and many Aldi price matches. Those just work out mostly better for me. That said when I get a £5 voucher on the Lidl Plus app I will always use it.

I have noticed that Northern and Southern Co-Op have kept raising their prices in the last few months. This could be due to all the shoplifting over this time. Even M&S prices have shot up. Their Remarksable Value range has gone up.

Shoplifting is now a ridiculous problem and with the police not bothering to prosecute them a lot of the time they are repeat offenders with no fear of arrest. Supermarkets have to factor in these losses to their costs which means their margin must increase. The country is getting poorer too so more people will get more desperate and start committing crime. We have to get tougher on these vile individuals.
