I started years ago to buy supermarket’s own store branded items they are much cheaper than branded products and helps saves money too!
What items have you started buying more? For me it’s face wash

I have always bought clothes from Sainsbury’s as they are good quality and they used to do half price sales and on occasions they had 25% off too which were a bargain!!
Went to have a look at reduced clothes yesterday they were just only 30% off!
I prefer using own branded stuff. I love clothes from Sainsbury's but wouldn't buy unless they were on sale in store or found the item in a charity shop.
ChelsieLou90 me too they are the same as branded items and much cheaper! Nothing wrong with them!
Yes I wouldn’t buy clothes unless the sale prices are really good!
I brought a few bits from Asda and Morrisons for my kids have been very good quality
!! I haven’t been to Asda in years lol 
I rarely buy any big brand food unless its on promotion. Even for shop brands I tend to buy mostly the value brands rather than the mid-range or high end shop brands. It's like baked beans I actually prefer the cheaper baked beans to heinz beans anyway. I do like Heinz soups but they are ridiculously priced nowadays for what is mainly water. It's not just saving money either, many of these big brands are large international companies so you are exporting more money abroad which adds to the country's debt pile and means more interest to pay and higher council tax bills and other bills in general. People seem to think they can just export as much of their money as possible without consequences. Spending less can be beneficial to the economy if the product is imported.
BonzoBanana yes I’m the same prefer Sainbsury’s own canned spaghetti 19p!! And they just taste better than Heinz ones have been buying them a lot! I know damn ridiculous for their canned soup way over priced!!
I like Behlsen biscuits but only when on offer. They are expensive otherwise so I swap to Asda own biscuits which are just as nice actually. Jams, pickles and soups we buy are all store brand.
JLouM haha I’m the same!! I only bought some hazelnut ones with a gooey chocolate 
filling only to try out when on offer to pay with nectar card otherwise wouldn’t buy them full priced! I never do! Same I buy Sainsbury’s own brand jammie dodgers they are softer biscuit to bite into!
I will buy branded food items only when their on offer and if I need them as quite happy to buy own label products these days, always worth comparing. Also happy to buy supermarket clothes and even better when their on offer or bought in the sale.
I always buy own brand items. Haven't bought a branded food item for years. I buy George and F&F clothes for my son and I. Have done for years. Its excellent quality and reasonably priced, even better if you get it in the sales.
I totally agree with you!! I’ve always bought supermarket clothes too! Only buy high street brand clothes like M&S if there’s sales but haven’t don’t bought any in years lol 
I used to buy Bonne Maman jams then I complemented a friends scones with jam and cream. Since then I buy Lidls which is half the price at just £1.79.
of brioche roll I got at Sainsburys’s should have gotten it at Aldi but forgot lol and cause can collect nectar points 
The only branded Items I buy are: Heinz Salad Cream & HP Brown Sauce. Dont like the cheap ones plus the taste. Anything else, Its store branded stuff.
I always go for a cheaper option than branded to see if it’s good enough to use regularly. If it’s not the best i just upgrade

I have no problem with own brand food items but there are a few things, like coffee, I won't compromise on.
I love tu clothing. Gutted Morrison clothes are in store only now. I can't get to a shop with Morrison clothes in where I am. Use as much shop own brand just cos of price
Jerseydrew I have not bought tu clothing in a a few years someone else said the quality has gone bad I had a look it doesn’t seem so

Jerseydrew I see that is for letting me know, do they do sales often? There’s two stores ones quite far another in city Center i can’t remember if that one sells clothes
kitty88uk I don't know as I rarely go. My local ones don't sell clothes. I have to travel about 2 hours to get to one that sells clothes

Local Sainsbury’s is just down the road for us
Tesco baked beans are better than any branded versions imo. I'm not particularly brand loyal on anything except has to be hellmans mayo.
Glitterandgold is that so, I never liked Heinz spaghetti hoops sweet and I dunno not to my taste compared to Sainsbury’s 19p canned one! I have at them a lot lol
We have changed mayonnaise brand not too fussed about it and salad cream too Sainbsury’s wasn’t used to it at first more tangy kick to it and more sour but fine with it now
I shop in Waitrose and the majority of my shop is their own brand. Tastes just like the branded version. I tried the same in Lidl but unfortunately apart from the walnuts the products were bad.

and much cheaper!! Yeah I tried Aldi’s own brand of monster munch crisps flavours were bland only one good is the meat flavour lol
Got the Snackrite chilli tortilla crisps not even spicy bit sweet but yeah bland but costs 95p a bag compared to Doritos
I don’t buy branded crisps unless there’s offers
My other half is Tesco mad she buys Tesco s own store brand on most things from toilet roll to. Tea but always buys a good coffee as Tescos value tastes like mud lol
I used to work at a factory when Uni on holidays and I was amazed to see how one site actually makes so many different variations of their product; their own labelled brand and then lots of others under different labels, some exactly the same ingredients and then som enot so much. The difference we pay for is normally down to the advertising and the brand cache rather than the product itself (often times).
PaxAmerica I had no idea it's the same factory/factories producing the same products under different names or labels. I always thought for example Asda, Tesco or Sainsbury's had their own exclusive factories for themselves only.
jam45 No its all contracted out to other manufacturers. The way it seems to work is that they will have a contract with a company and in return for a dicounted supply of the product they ensure they have a steady stream of revenue in th ecoming years.

It's always worth trying different things to see if you can save some money and if you don't like them do not buy them again. Tesco beans are good 
I worked at Falmers Jeans factory a while back in quality control. The same identical jeans were labelled according to which store they went to and with according prices. So the same pair of jeans was sold with an increased price depending which brand of store you bought them from. Just goes to show how gullible we've been believing certain brands are better quality than others.

EmmaWright762 I didn't know any of this. I thought this method of pricing only belonged to food manufacturers.
jam45 it’s for any items whether it’s foods or clothes pretty obvious they do this, I’m surprised you didn’t know!
My mum knows someone who works at a cheese factory and gave us some for free the packaging for different supermarkets like Aldi and another supermarket but the exact same cheese 
products!
To be honest I'm a bit all over the place when it comes to grocery shopping. I currently predominantly shop at Sainsbury's for my own personal grocery shop, and I'll quite happily buy things like "Stamford Street Co. Tomato Ketchup 460g" [private label] for my ketchup as I prefer the taste and texture of that over the "Sainsbury's Tomato Ketchup Sauce". But then sometimes I still buy branded things like Weetabix Crispy Minis Chocolate and Kellogg's Raisin Wheats for cereal and OREO Double Stuff Cookies to have with the afternoon coffee (Sainsbury's Gold Roast).
A lot of my grocery shopping at the moment is based on what offers I've got on my Nectar Card - be that Nectar Prices or Nectar Bonus Points, or even any Nectar Card Prices (prices available to all Nectar Card holders) I become aware of. To me it is all about spending within my means and spending what money I have wisely.
Timmeh I do a mix of Lidls and Sainsburys. I was very cross with Sainsburys some years back when the local store let go most of their disabled workers and their public loo because they thought it was attracting homeless people. Eventually the cost of living crisis encouraged me to use them on line to use their first time user discount. I must say I was really impressed with their nectar prices and bonus points too. Sainsbury's delivery people are very helpful too.

it’s great collecting nectar points we shop there a lot as it’s just down the road from where we live and we don’t do online shopping unless it’s for clothes when there’s sales but I prefer seeing them in person lol
