Surviving on No Sleep!
Other
For the past 3 nights I've been lucky to get 2-3 hours sleep. It has taken 4 hours to get my son to sleep in his cot and everytime I try to put him down he immediately wakes up and screams! My husband had to sleep in the spare room last night.
He has a viral infection thanks to a coworker passing it to my husband who passed it to our son, so he has a cough and a build up of mucus which is annoying him. He is also teething and possibly going through a sleep regression, plus his wind is worse than normal.
So it's all adding up to very little sleep. I've tried leaving him to cry but he just gets agitated and makes himself sick.
I don't normally like coffee but I feel it will be my friend today!
Aw, bless you MrsCraig. It's been many years since I had that issue but my daughter barely slept as a baby (a bit of a shock after two boys who were brilliant sleepers) and so I can imagine just how exhausted you must be feeling. I hope you're little one makes a super speedy recovery. Personally, I used to find if I tried leaving her to cry she just worked herself into a total frenzy where she would become too hot or be sick and it also stressed me out too much.
That's exactly what he does, gets himself all upset and it upsets me too. Hopefully it won't last that much longer. He has never been a brilliant sleeper but has gotten better recently, so hopefully this is just a blip.
Really sorry to hear this - co-workers can sometimes be blooming selfish when they think they are being stalwarts! We have a family child with Cystic Fibrosis and you wouldn't believe the selfishness of people who should know better. Don't forget Vicks or equivalent chest rub - we also bought a plug in vaporiser to help with excessive mucus. I hope you have an easier night.
My husband suffered with it for 2 weeks so hoping the wee man gets rid of it quicker than that! Unfortunately he is too young for normal vicks and don't have the baby one. Calpol helped him earlier for his teeth so hopefully help him again tonight. Will look into the plug in.
Oh gosh, I've been there too. I found a cool mist humidifier helped a lot with colds and congestion. Lots of cheap ones on amazon with nice mood lights as well. A dose of Calpol in the evening is also a lifesaver, but I see you're already doing that.
Calpol doesn't seem to be doing anything just now, he is so hot to the touch. I've got a fan to try cool him down, although don't think it will do anything for the congestion but definitely going to look into the humidifier.
MrsCraig is he any better? A fever that doesn't go down with calpol is usually a sign they need to see a doctor.
ClaireF1978 took him to the dr today and he sent us to the a&e at the sick kids. He has a viral infection and some of it is sitting on his lung so he has antibiotics and just keep giving him calpol and plenty of fluids. Because of his heart condition they have to be extra careful with him.
MrsCraig bless him, I hope he gets better soon and you can all get some rest. My son had something very similar last year, they like to scare us!
ClaireF1978 he is a bit more like his usual self today, the antibiotics and paracetamol are definitely helping him and his fever has gone down.
I totally understand how your son feels I am the same had a sore throat and keep bringing up mucus and every time I lay down I keep coughing I don’t do it as much when I’m sat up but trying to go to sleep sat up is so uncomfortable I didn’t get to sleep till 4.30am this morning and went to bed at 9.30pm I hope your son get well real son it is a horrible thing to have as a adult never mind a child X
He slept well last night, think the calpol helped him so that he wasn't uncomfortable but he just isn't himself. He has antibiotics so should clear up in a few days. I hope you start to feel better soon.
