Taking Multivitamins Daily Doesn't Help People Live Longer Says Study
Other
So taking multivitamins every day doesn't help you live longer or improve your health
It is just money down the drain according to this study
In fact taking them in some cases could be making you feel worse
The problem is they have never been tested until lately and people just assumed they are doing you good
I can see lots of denials from the industry, after all this industry is worth billions , so i suppose you have to make your own choice
If they do seem to improve your health maybe it is a placebo effect rather than the vitamins themselves and you are willing yourself to feel better

I've always poo pooed vitamins before but the older I've got I'm getting more tired so l just brought a multivitamin with iron and a well known fizzing tablet, yes l expect miracles straight away, I've been taking them for two weeks and I'm still pooped every day, l don't think l will bother to buy anymore when they are all gone, eating healthy (fruit & veg) and drinking more water and trying to get seven hours sleep will have to do as l do believe its money down the drain.
Pinkspirit fatigue is a sign of many things, including thyroid and diabetes, have you seen doctor?
So much for being told to take vitamin D not only in winter but summer too. I do take them. But the only other thing I take is glucosamine for my knee joints and I swear by that. When knee pain was really bad started taking and improvement in about 6 weeks. Stopped taking and within weeks pain was back but to lesser degree, take one daily again now.
Lynibis I think pain relief is a different matter L , but i think the majority of vitamin tablets are just a waste of money
I used to take beta carotene and cod liver oil years ago , the fish oil tablets are the only one of the two i believe have a positive effect on your health, the other i just convinced myself they did
The problem is vitamin tablets don't get absorbed in the body, you get rid of them quickly with bodily waste
You are far better eating foods that already contain the vitamins you want and need
So instead of cod liver oil tablets i would have virgin olive oil , despite its rise in price, i know this is being absorbed , but even with this you have to be careful , it can become carcinogenic above a certain heated temperature, so it is better served cold on salads etc
I found out from a nutritionist consultant last year, that most over the counter vitamins don't work, the body doesn't/cant absorb them, vitamin B3 is one of them, waste of money
telmel I know it's true with with B3 and vitamin D, I was higher deficient in both, I had really highly doses on prescription from Dr and my levels didn't alter one bit
Big Pharma doing it's thing methinks.Multi vits are no replacement for a good diet tis true but I do think that adding in a few extra vits when living in a polluted city under the stresses and strains of surburban living will certainly not do anyone any harm.
I think you can't just lump them altogether as many people have vitamin deficiencies but others may assume they have deficiencies and be taking them for no benefit as they aren't actually deficient. Taking Vitamin D has been medically proven to improve people's health as there has been quite a lot of research done on it. In fact now I think of it there has been quite a lot of medical research done on various vitamins and minerals etc that are positive. I think its more about vitamins and minerals that standard food is deficient in. Many processed foods are very poor nutritionally so many people who eat mainly processed food I'm sure will benefit. Someone who is regularly eating healthy food like salads may not need to take supplements. I reduced my dairy food consumption recently but using oat milk more often and that has made me feel much better so fatigue may be more about what you are actually eating rather than relying on a supplement to cure the issue. I had kidney stones previously which is the most painful thing I've ever endured and now take Chanca Piedra which has been proven to break up such stones. I just take one occasionally and avoid spinach most of the time which can be a big cause and which I used to eat a lot of.
BonzoBanana If a vitamin works for you B then that's ok, as i mentioned i think fish oil tablets have some goodness that is retained in the body, so it can depend on the symptom being treated and the type of vitamin
But i do think the majority of miracle vitamins are a waste of time and we only think they are working, in fact just the power of thought can sometimes make us feel good we are taking them
If this is true I should be back in hospital being given another transfusion because I certainly do not get enough nutrients from the food I eat. I am scared to eat too much because I cannot move around much and am constantly denying myself food for the fear of going up another dress size. I've only gone up two dress sizes so far since my disability, but I certainly do not take in enough vitamins in the small amount I do eat.
Pfs Lots of desserts are full of vitamins too but also sadly lots of fat and sugar.
chantelle1992t Technically it could be said about water, juices, etc we are drinking, so we should stop ? I am sorry but have to disagree with your opinion. Lack of vitamins in your body can cause a lot of issues with your health depends on which vitamins and nutrients are missing.
- Increased susceptibility to mental health issues like depression and dementia
- Heightened risk of developing cancer
- A greater likelihood of developing arthritis
- Heart problems
- Pneumonia
- Premature death.
Unfortunately so many people with access to the internet. The excess of anything will be removed by body itself in sweat, urine or stool.
I have to take a multivitamin, as part of my prescription due to ill health, so this doesn’t apply to all like your theory suggests more medical.
I take vitD tablet daily as prescribed by my doctor plus an occasional multivitamin gummy. I’ve not noticed any difference but convince myself theyre protecting me.
