Taylor Swift Courses at Harvard university.......REALLY???

Other

Interview on This Morning with a person (couldn't identify gender as male voice but would guess trans) who has initiated a course on Taylor Swift and her music. To me this is just obsessive fans pushing their agenda, how does it take young adults forward into the working world? This isn't the first time a frivolous course has been added to a university choice of subject but it seems a cop out to me and couldn't believe it of Harvard.

Now if it had been a course on somebody more worthy like Elvis or The Beatles then it might have some credibility, but she is only just out of nappies

Ok she is a good singer and performer but surely there is not enough history to warrant this ?

telmel my POV is how does studying one pop star give you any sort of advantage in later life or in the workforce. I can understand studying an overview of music over a period of time, especially if it includes the study of music as a medium it's effects, good or bad on society, how to enter the music world etc.

Lynibis Yes i see your point L , my reply was more tongue in cheek than serious

It does beggar belief that a top US university would allow such a useless thesis

This type of subject belongs on the likes of mastermind not there

telmel No, no, no. Celebrities of the past and presents will be a "Mickey Mouse" degree. (A Tory MP said this about the number of degrees available while Labour was in power) No wonder unemployment is so, so, high.

Thats pretty sad I can see them getting far with that education considering that most people have masters degree and still can't get a job

martinlufc5637 I just wish they wouldn't keep clamouring for attention, no one cares anymore, just live your lives and stop pushing your agendas.

I don’t know the ins and outs of how a university offers a course but i agree, i can’t see how this would be of benefit to anyone in the real world.

You have people like our Student Radiographer working hard to complete her degree, her school friend studying to be a Doctor in the Czech Republic where she has family as it's cheaper than studying in England, another friend who's Mum is from Kenya doing a Masters as an Engineer & another friend who's parents are from Guinea,West Africa just qualified in Adult Nursing...

These ARE real qualifications that will benefit the people studying them & our country, NOT some degree on a over rated pop star, just because they are fans!

All of this celebrity worship and interest does get on my nerves a bit. If I like the music that's it really I don't need to know who the person is dating and what they think about dolphins or their favourite colour. You see crappy magazines in newsagents about celebrities and you wonder who is buying them.
