Tesco Now Charging 30p For Loose Vegetable Bags

I haven’t been in Tescos for a while now. You can get a bag full of veg for less then that. Shocking.

We noticed this last week in tescos

30p a bag is very profitable for them. Don't you think this is about the environment.

Other stores have been doing this for a while now, I believe Lidl were the first to do it about 4 years back, the bags are generally like a net bag and supposed to be reusable. I just put my veg loose in the bottom of a carrier

That has reminded me that I bought 2 reusable net bags from Lidl (Aldi?) some time ago for this purpose. I have forgotten where I put them lol.

I just pile everything in my own bag or trolley or pinch a box of the shelf.

I think it’s shocking. More profits again.

I bought 2 mesh bags but forget every time to take with me. I buy some packaged and just rest the loose stuff on top.

I haven't used the plastic bags for 10 years or more. I put them in the trolly too. The 30p charge is to stop people using them

I suppose it reduces plastic waste but seems hypocritical as they’re still selling prepackaged vegetables.

It makes sense to charge people are less likely to take them if they're not free. I don't understand why veg is sold in bags either. I thought they were trying to faze it out

Sucks to be him. I don't put my veg in a bag I out it straight in the trolley I don't want the bag not cos of cost but cos its bad for the environment

I refuse to pay for these bags, I think Sainsbury’s have been doing it for a while. I shop at Waitrose and the bags are free plus you can use them to line your food bin caddy.

The stuff I normally buy loose; bananas, onions, potatoes, peppers it either doesn't matter if I store them loose in the trolley/basket or I will wash them before use anyway. Apples, tomatoes and quite a few other items I tend to buy pre-packaged as they are often cheaper pre-packed. I don't get the anti-Tesco bit though as this seems common across many supermarkets and its to help the environment. Why does it make people angry Tesco do this but not other supermarkets which seems a bit nuts to be honest. There does seem to be people that like to criticise Tesco for no reason and yet happy to buy from Lidl and Aldi which does huge damage to the UK economy, creating more debt and problems in the UK. As a country we seem to have citizens that are on economic self-destruct.

I remember a time when you could get as many bags you wanted for free and it wasn't that long ago, we take our own for vegetables ect...

Our local Tesco has been charging 30p for fruit and veg bags for long time now, maybe almost 2yrs. Personally I refuse to pay that for a small bag to put my fruit and veg in and just buy it loose and throw it in with my shopping at the till

I paid 25p per net bag from Aldi & have four,one covers our Alex Show in the kitchen to stop anything getting on it,I use one to carry my food to work & our 25 year old daughter uses her's to put her delicate underwear in & wash it!

Can anyone think of any more uses for the little net bags??

I went to Tesco earlier this week and you are right! 30p a bag. Mind you Sainsburys has been charging for similar reusable bags for far longer. I won't buy them....

I am waiting to shop for the loose sprouts so that they will drop through the trolley slots all the way round the shop
