Tesco Puts Security Tags on Blocks of Cathedral City Cheddar Cheese

In the News

You can understand supermarkets putting security tags on high value items, such as electrical goods or spirits etc

But this is a first for me, security tags on cheese !!

This is what Tescos have had to do with their Cathedral City mature cheddar, one of their most expensive on sale

Saying that we do have an epidemic , and its not of mice, but thieving individuals that think they are entitled to take anything for free that is not tied down

You see it on the news and in the papers, people just walking into a store , filling their bags and just walking out , usually with no resistance

I really don't know what the answer is, the thieves are not even deterred by security guards never mind the shop assistants

The idealistic soft approach has failed and the country has run out of money so either you let the country collapse into anarchy or you increase the punishment to deter crime. We have tried idealism and the soft approach for far too long so surely at some point we will have to get back to realistic punishments and politics. I'm not saying go down the extreme punishment of some countries mainly Muslim where they would cut off your hands for theft. I'm just saying think of these criminals as a resource and slave labour for their punishment period. So simple crimes could result in a year's working in the fields with a ball and chain on their ankles. They have to hate the punishment to stop them committing the crime. Many are drug addicts so putting them somewhere where they are forced to go cold turkey is another option as part of their punishment. They also have to be moved away from normal civilised society as much as possible. Somewhere basic where there is less access to shops to steal from. Their benefits could be tied to areas where it is the only option for them to collect them and these areas could be set up for more harsh punishments. I mean many of these criminals are violent and wielding weapons like knives and there is a real risk of death to innocent people. Where criminals are shown to have weapons or act with extreme violence I personally have no problem with them being shot dead. It's a farce how people working in schools, shops and hospitals have a high risk of being victims of violence because of the pathetic punishments which are not a deterrent to a very high percentage of criminals.

We only have to look to America to see how its going, they are ahead of us with places in New York where thieves blatantly steal items from shops only to sell them outside the very same shop on the street. While the USA is a rich country their government debts are even more staggering than ours per head and they are a low tax economy so there is even less money for public services especially with their ridiculously high military spending.

I cant see the link as It only lets people subscribe. Why only Cathedral City Mature Cheese? There Is another brand much higher In price. How odd. I am sure I read months ago It was Coffee somewhere. I am not surprised with how much things have gone up. That`s down partially to the retailer who has been charging what they like. Tesco Is expensive anyways.

PayItForward The thieves don't really care what it is P, as long as they can sell it on

Just found this article in the news today

PayItForward The problem is P is that the shops don't absorb the losses with theft , and why should they, they just pass it onto the customers through higher prices

Its getting to ridiculous epidemic proportions now , and the thieves are getting more brazen knowing there is no room left in the prisons, so they might get a fine , paid for by the taxpayers usually as they will be on benefits, or community service , so they will do a bit of this and just carry on thieving and keep selling the stolen goods on

It's a win win for them

That's if they ever get caught , the police aren't going after them anymore as they have more 'important'

matters to deal with, like traffic fines

To be honest I rarely shop at Tesco now, even their Aldi price match items are far inferior to Aldi's quality, I'm my mind they are a waste of money.

jam45 Like you I generally find Aldi products inferior, there are quite a few items that are unacceptable low quality to me and despite looking at them every time I go into Aldi I don't think I've bought bananas there for six months as they are always small slightly manky looking. Tesco sells a wide range of goods with different quality levels at different price points as well as the goods from generic factories with plain labels on or Tesco's own fake brands. Aldi pretty much only has one basic quality level and they put labels on them resembling the big brands, its manipulative marketing for dare I say it the most stupid type of people. I personally think its unfair to the big brands that Aldi and Lidl can copy the design style of their goods and repackage lower grade products that way. I believe its illegal to do so in many countries for obvious reasons but we allow it here which is madness and unfair.

Our Tesco in Yeovil is fantastic with a huge range of products and a wide range of value end products as well as many offers and Aldi and Lidl price matches. I rarely spend more than £10 in Aldi as its a limited choice which a huge amount of lower grade products. However I'm more swayed by what vouchers I have so use all the supermarkets although extremely rarely would I use Waitrose or M&S. I have to say without vouchers I find Tesco better value than Morrisons or Asda for sure. I can't really compare Aldi to Tesco as I can't really get that much in Aldi as its about a fifth of the size of Tesco. Almost never drive to Aldi as its pointless wasting petrol money for such a limited shop which I can easily carry the amount of goods I buy from them.

This is madness! My local greggs has had to clear the fridge sections now because of theives. They walk in and just take anything that isn't behind the counter, so now if you would like a drink or a fridged sandwich you have to ask at the till. A shame really.

I have noticed that security guards only have bodycams, nothing else, so... What are they supposed to do to stop shoplifters and violent customers? Their bare hands?

I want to become one myself, but probably not in England or at least be left protect-less.

There’s so much shoplifting being reported these days. Why don’t these people use food banks?

Pjran I think its because you dont get expensive items at a food bank P , they wouldn't get much selling a tin of beans or loaf of bread , thankfully shops dont need to tag these items , yet

HEDGEHOGS I've been in a shop 3 times when a theft has occurred, once was in Tesco Express where I didn't see the vile scum doing it but saw the shop assistant run after them for a short while. Twice in Iceland I was in there when there was a theft, one time I didn't see it because it was on the other side of an aisle but heard the commotion. The other time this weird looking couple of about 20 years old were caught with the bloke trying to put a bottle of cider in his bag. The bloke looked at me with a weird arrogance as he left the store after giving back the cider.

He looked incredibly stupid dare I say it. There wasn't much going on inside his head I feel which is perhaps why his morality level is so low, no real processing power to think about others when he commits crime. Also his girlfriend didn't look much better, tons of makeup but again not much intelligence. In the old days he probably would have been a fine citizen working in factory doing a basic job but earning his own money and developing some self-confidence about his place in society. Instead he is part of the underclass where there is only unemployment and poverty today in a country getting poorer and poorer where dealing with crime is getting less and less resources.

You can see how much shoplifting is going on from just posts here

Imagine how much is happening in reality, probably every day in nearly every store all over the UK

I suspect this is part of the reason food prices are so high , as i mentioned previously

I think it might get to a point where supermarkets may no longer exist because of prolific theft, and it may be all online through deliveries to the home

This is the only way the thefts might stop, unless the thieves target the warehouses 🙄

Won't be long before everything is tagged or behind glass, shoplifters have a free reign at the moment and it ain't going to get any better anytime soon
