Jerseydrew Yes so do I. I’ve heard different reasons on the News.

Brexit and the war in Ukraine.

No it won't and they have kick started a huge rise to get them all going again after the last few horrible years and make loads of profit but now it will still continue to rise as it did before but maybe not so quickly and sharply.

Going around Tesco I was amazed at how expensive some things are. Made some different decisions as to what I’d buy. Eg 9 kitkat gone up to £1.65 - and that’s Clubcard price. Changed to blue ribbon for £1.25.

JLouM I think that is the way to go. But sometimes I forget how much I have paid on some items. But I have started to note a lot more.

julie781x That’s what they rely on. I have a good look around at the different products and prices. I refuse to pay some amounts or I’ll choose one thing but go without another.

Unfortunately I very much doubt it. Supermarket prices keep going up and now they know people will pay these prices they'll end up sticking to them and increasing them more ( subtly ). Keep watching folks.

No, I do not think prices will go back down but it’s just a matter of shopping around and maybe changing brand or products to save money these days

Probably not.Things seldom do.Although If we all vote with our feet and leave things on the shelf they might have to reconsider things a little.Power to shoppers.

I very much doubt that food will start to go down in price, it would be great to happen though, i've stopped buying a lot of things that I used to and have downgraded to different products.

Brexit in theory could have had food go down in price but we continued with the same tariffs on some imported food products sourced from outside Europe except now we keep the tariffs instead of paying them to the EU. We actually get cheap food in the UK compared to many countries, partly because we don't put a sales tax on most food but also because we are an island with easy port access and we are densely populated. So logistics are less expensive.

Here is the cost of bananas by country but you can select other options to compare;

However the Ukraine war is a huge factor in food inflation for certain foods like grains.

I doubt it personally, that’s the problem in this country. When costs increase they pass it onto us (which is fair) but then when they decrease again they don’t put the price of the products back down.

Na, prices won't go down.

It's gone beyond. Tesco have put their prices up again. £2 for a litre of orange juice. TWO POUND, mind 😡

No, there is no longer any real competition between supermarkets, they are just sheep and follow each other these days and that includes Aldi & Lidl who are no longer any more competitive than other.

No they won't, they are not interested in people who are struggling, just massive profits

martinlufc5637 Most supermarkets have debts in the billions. Lidl, Tesco, Asda, Morrisons and Sainsburys all have debts in the billions. I don't think they are making massive profits we are actually benefitting from extreme competition however external factors have raised the cost of some foods and of course energy cost rises has been the biggest catalyst with regard increasing costs. Admittedly Asda and Morrisons were saddled with debt due to how they were taken over using leveraged buyouts.

I don't think so. Some items are down in price, but they are also smaller in quantity. As in how many mls you get compared to before. Like toothpaste, washing powder etc. Everybody needs smaller prices but not smaller sizes to make it look like a saving.

I don't think food will ever go down in price. It's still going up now. Absolutely disgusting the way things have gone up.
