Do You Think Vets Charge Too Much for Pet Vaccinations?

I don't know what goes into it or where the money goes - I'd love to know the full details before I can put my complete input into it. As if it went into more research and things then I'd be for it, but if most of it goes into other people's pockets then not so much.

But if it means helping our animals stay safe then sadly we have to pay it.

I rescued/fostered and owned rabbits, sadly one of the illnesses we vaccinate for was a man made illness, which is even more infuriating as we have to pay to keep them safe for something humans created in the first place! When I started it was 2 vaccinations - one for Myxomatosis and one for RHD then it became one vaccination which was easier - then RHD mutated and then we have a combination vaccination and 2 weeks later we'd have to go back to get the RHD2. Now we have a triple vaccine which saves going back and forth and saves the stress to the animals too but it is around £60-£90 a vaccination now per rabbit and they are social animals which needs neutering (which can be costly and have to find a rabbit savvy vet, not all vets have good rabbit knowledge) so it would be that cost times 2 if you have a pair and that is every year.

Which is why many people think rescuing is pricey as you can buy a rabbit from a shop for around £10-£30 and sometimes rescues are more like £60-£120 BUT they are already usually neutered, bonded (which can be stressful, not all buns will get on) and already vaccinated and health checked for that year and the rescues also have the cost of caring for them when they are there, feed and house them which isn't cheap for the correct enclosures, food and constant supply and hay.

They are very rewarding but please consider adopting before buying, there are so many stand alone rabbit rescues full to the brim and have waiting lists and still people are dumping theirs.

So yes vaccinations are pricey BUT it depends on where the money goes.

We actually are apart of this thing at our vets called Healthy Pet Club, you pay a certain amount a month to get your yearly vaccinations, flea and worming, a 6 month free health check and 10 percent off all vet bills. It’s £11 per animal and you get money off for each animal you have on the plan.

Vet consultations on the other hand are a joke! We used to pay £35 per consultation and it is now £50!!.

Yes it's very expensive for vaccines and most pet insurance don't cover for them either we don't have any pets now but years ago we was charged £80 in my local vet

We were part of the monthly pet club at our vets. We paid £13 a month and all vaccinations, flea and worming treatments, teeth cleaning etc were covered. Meant I knew she was paid for.

Not sure it’s the right word, but I was lucky when I had my dogs as our vet had a scheme called vacs for life and cost £99.for each dog. This included seeing the vet once a year and getting each dog vaccinated.

My mum pays an arm and a leg for pet vaccinations.They are rather expensive.
