Ticket Slapped on Funeral Car While D-Day Hero Was Having His Service

In the News

You can understand why people despise parking wardens when they do this type of despicable act

You just couldn't stoop much lower

But i suppose his commission means more to him than respecting a war hero

A 'legal duty' to issue a pcn. What sort of guff is this? The warden would have been arrested for not performing his legal duty? I think not. Would the car owner have reported the fact they HADN'T received a ticket? I think not, they would breathe a sign of relief. So sick of people putting money above the care and regard of fellow humans.

jam45 I wrote my comment on the spur of the moment and do stand by it, but I am now wondering why there is not adequate parking facilities around funeral homes and chapels etc.

I appreciate it was a funeral car but apparently the road was clearly marked as a no parking spot. The undertakers must know where to park.

Pjran It depends P, maybe the road was congested and they had no choice , what else could they do, cancel the funeral ?

telmel surely the undertakers know the rules of the road, there are no excuses. They should have sent a member of staff earlier to reserve a parking space then move once the hearse arrives.

Pjran Its hard to know in advance if a road is going to be busy or not P, and i doubt they have staff to spare to do this, the parking attendent should have used common sense in this instance

It shows they were wrong by issuing a refund , if they were right they would have refused one

telmel I’m sure they’ve only issued a refund after being in the press.

Leannexxx I really think this is an exceptional case L, imagine if it was your grandfathers funeral, i know i would be devastated if the funeral car could not reach the venue, the warden should have shown some compassion, also what would have happened if the service was delayed further, would they have towed the funeral car away with the body inside ?

telmel ambulance and police get tickets so why shouldn't these be any different? And in all honesty it wouldn't make no difference to me because I wouldn't have been paying it. all they have to do is get in touch with the council and they probably won't have to pay it either instead of going to the papers traffic warden get loads of stick for doing their job do you know people drive round following them and if they miss a car they get radioed to go back and get whatever is in a parking stop that shouldn't be? And if they miss cars because they have a self conscious they could get stacked

Leannexxx I know you are right L, if they follow regulations, but maybe the warden should have called HQ to get advice, or the rules should be changed, they allow delivery vans to stop to drop off goods to shops, maybe they should allow hearses to drop off bodies ?

telmel no it's down to the funeral directors to call the local council to let them know they will be a funeral and they need some parking space that way the traffic warden knows not to put a ticket till that is done they have to do their job

jam45 it is a horrible job to have my other half did it he had no choice job centre made him he hated the abuse he got sometimes just for walking past most of the time he didn't give tickets out and then the bosses would follow him round without him knowing and they would get in touch with him saying he's missed some he wasn't there long they stacked him blessing really
