How Much Should You Tip?
Ask a Question
How much should you tip on a bill?
Harry Styles was in the news recently when a receipt showed he tipped just $5 on a $70 order, despite obviously having a lot of money to his name.
I have never tip anyone for just doing their paid job. Why should I? The cheeky so and so complaining to all about a $5 dollar tip.
In America the expected tip is 20% to make up the servers low salary. I’m surprised Harry was even presented with a bill.
Pjran That's gotten so bad that even machines are demanding tips. It'd be funny if it wasn't for real.
PhilipMarc I can’t remember which site I placed an order with recently but it wanted me to round up for to next £ charity.
When he "just" tipped? In the U.S. that's out of control, but in the rest of the world that's completely optional and most of the time the thing employees might get is a thank you.
I know a lot of restaurants are very sly by adding a service charge at the bottom- you can delete it at a lot of restaurants. If the server has been attentive and polite etc i would rather leave cash for them than it go through the actual business
We go for breakfast in a local hotel from time to time. As shown above the 'tip' charge is there on the payment screen. Sometimes we tip if the breakfast and service have been good but when it hasn't we don't! Sometimes we would add the tip to the card bill and other times it is in cash - it varies. I always thought that somewhere between 10 - 15% was acceptable in the UK.
Depends on the service. If its rubbish zero to a quid if outstanding five to a tenner.
The thing is when it's done via machine the tip doesn't go where it's meant to.
There’s no “shouldn’t” about it!! Nobody SHOULD pay a tip, it’s down to personal choice.
And personally I don’t believe in automatically adding a tip to a bill either, it’s outrageously cheeky and takes the p**s!
Nobody else gets tips just for doing their job, so why the hell should restaurant or bar staff etc.!??
