Tip for Better Sleep

Other

I recently read the best tip for getting good sleep is habit. It’s going to bed the exact same time each night and getting up the exact same time the next day.. not even 10 mins difference each side and even on the weekends. Within a few weeks your body will have learnt when it’s time to switch off and you will have great sleep!

The people who wrote that have clearly never had children! Despite having the same bedtime each night my son wakes up at a different time each day!

That’s the ideal world. Not doable if you work odd hours or have different work patterns

I agree with the advice you have read as I am a creature of habit and wake at exact same time every day. Never need an alarm clock. I must admit though, that my bed time varies within a 1 hour window. Although young children may not be conducive to this routine once they go all night it should not be difficult.

It would seem younger people love to lie in at weekends but I find it difficult to do so, if I lie in to 9 or later the morning seems to be gone before I get going!

Light is also a bit factor, I find.

A nice cool, clean, dark room. (I always find a pleasant smell helps!) Lavender and camomile is suppose to naturally help.

Turn down the lights before bed, if you don't have dimmers, get some lamps and can even turn your TV darkness down if you watch TV up until bed, but try not to watch TV or use any devices at least an hour before bed. No food at least 4 hours before sleeping too. If you really struggle, try not to have any caffeine, if you do, not past 1pm.

There is definitely some truth to the routine though. I've known people that used to nap at a certain time of day, then the days they were busier and didn't want to nap, they felt really tired and needed to sleep at that time of day.

Cooler temperatures dim lights pitch dark is sometimes unsettling possibly watching a tv show or something that takes your mind off your day a warm shower or a long bath and try your best to get all chores done before hand so once your in bed your not getting up until you wake up
