Do You Tip Your Hairdresser?

I get my mother to do my hair with some Wahl clippers and happy with the hair cuts but I only started doing that when Covid hit and couldn't go to a normal hairdresser. When I went to a hairdresser I never tipped and didn't see anyone else tip either.

I always tip my hairdresser will only be a couple of pounds but it's something as most are self employed

I do tip my hairdresser, but my husband always asks me why has like you say you have already paid. It's something I've always done, ditto wait staff if we go out for meals, which is a rare occasion.

My 'now' hairdresser has a salon built in her back garden and she works on her own, l have always tipped even tho l feel the cost of highlights and a cut, wash & blow dry is so expensive. Hairdresser's are skilled in their profession and make me look and feel beautiful, tho l have worked in a salon so l know the cost of products.....

I always tip. Just a couple of extra £s. I always tip good services.

If they have done a good cut and listened to what I asked for then yes I do at least a £1.

Yes I have always tipped my hairdresser, she cuts my hair at her home and still a lot cheaper than the salons.

I haven’t been to the hairdressers in years. I have had so many bad experiences. But on the subject of tipping why do we tip some services and not offers ? Tips for hairdressers, waiters and taxi drivers but no tips for nurses, doctors or paramedics who could be saving your life.

I cut my own hair with clippers, #0 allover which is easy to do. But when I went to a hairdresser I didn't tip and didn't see anyone else tip either.

I use to but not any longer, price has doubled since COVID , I get they have to charge more, but double is a bit steep

I got my husband to trim my hair for the last two years but I needed a proper cut. I went to a local hairdressing college which a trainee student cut my hair. She done a great job and my hair looks lovely and it only cost £5.

Our lads go to a man's barber, and he gets a tip. My partner gives a tip to hers. I do not because I shave my own bold head

Yes I always tip mine I would feel bad if I didn't normally about £5 as someone different washes your hair then another one cuts it

Why would you tip her?...she'd be on the floor then, no use to anyone

Self-employed hairdressers charge what they want to charge for the job. Why would you unilaterally decide that they haven’t charged enough and add more? Do you do that at the garage? In a small shop? At a newsagent? Same logic!

Always just an extra pound

I don’t even pay my hairdresser! It’s my daughter in law and she will not take money from me. So every so often I buy her nice things that I know she likes but doesn’t want to spend money on.

I give my Hairdresser £2 tip for my cut but when I'm having my hair cut n coloured I give her £5..

My Hairdresser Sarah has been doing mine & our daughter's hair since our 25 year old daughter was a small child,she used to cut & plait daughter's hair for NOTHING. As our daughter grew up she charged £7 for her cut & blow dry,daughter washed her own hair before cut.

Sarah asked me after Covid if she could put the price of our daughter's cut up to £10 .I said of course Sarah could,telling her that I thought she would have put it up ages ago..

My cut & blow dry costs me £15,I wash my own hair,my cut n colour cost my £35..

Sarah is mobile but used to work on Division Street in Sheffield Centre years ago,a prestigious place..

Sarah cuts my 2 sisters hair & other family members hair too,she's not just our Hairdresser but a friend too..

Sarah gave her Saturday off up to cut mine & our daughter's hair so I gave her an extra £5

I always tip the hairdresser, even though I think I have paid enough for the service provided. I feel as though the hairdresser expects a tip.

Yep always tip my hairdresse, and at Christmas give her a gift card or the same in cash. She always does a good job and she will try and fit me in if I’ve not booked. Very nice lady and always smiling and can chat to her

I kind of resent doing it as my hair costs me almost £100 and that’s for foils, toner and I hate that I pay for a whole cut when I only ever have a bit of a trim - literally a tiny trim, one or two centimetres. Oh the £100 includes 20% discount for nhs staff as well….. so if I didn’t work for the health service I think I would have to go elsewhere…!! so I usually give her £5, as she is a lovely girl and does do a good job… works in a salon, and I know the salon manager pays and treats her staff well - I’ve been going to the same salon for about 15 years now, I know all the staff and they know me. I would hate to be known as someone who doesn’t tip i remember when I was about 15 I worked on Saturdays in a busy upmarket hair salon and I was absolutely made up if I got a 50p tip for washing someone’s hair….. mind you, that was back in 2000/2001!!!

Not at all, if they want to receive £30 for a cut then charge that and not £27 or £28 hoping for a 'top up' tip which is invisible to the taxman!

I am happy to buy a Christmas gift instead

Yes I went to hair dressers to find Lee Stafford there in his academy and it was an event I got free products and sweets.

I used to when I used regular hairdressers. But I now only go to the 100 NTD place when I’m in Taiwan and pay via a vending machine so need need to tip

I don't tip my hairdresser. I think they charge for a service and I pay that price. Whilst in my hairdressers I have noticed that it's mostly elderly people that tip. I don't get any tips for doing my job. Reading the comments, some people tip loads on here £5 extra tax-free is a nice bit of extra income.

I tip my hair dresser , mine is pretty cheap to be honest and cuts and styles just like any others who charge the earth!

Yes i always tip my hairdresser as i enjoy having my hair done but move on if not happy with the job done!!
