Titanic Watch Sells for Record-Breaking £1.175 Million
In the News
This gold pocket watch beat all other memorabilia at auction to fetch £1.175 million, a new record
It belonged to one of the richest men in the world who died on the Titanic in 1912
It had to be restored after spending so much time in the water, but now looks like it did then
You could say this piece was 'timeless'
It's disgusting to be honest that should have been left down there with the owner and the other people who have passed I really don't get it what people would want it or anything to do with the tragedy that happened
I can't say I understand the desire to own something from the shipwreck. I understand exploring it to get a better understanding of what happened but I don't think they should be taking items from the ship, unless for research purposes.
I am sort of envious that someone has more than a million to spend on a watch but if that's their thing and they can afford it so be it.
On the one hand someone with far too much money had to part with some of it and pay tax in the process. On the other I can not even begin to imagine how much good that amount of money could have done to improve some of the dire situations in the world today. I feel rather sorry for a person who values a gold watch over humanity.
Its the same with collectors of paintings E, they lock the most valuable ones in a vault so only they can view it occasionaly
Only a rich person would buy a watch from a dead rich person who owned it, that came from a disaster, it should have been left with everything else
Wow. Madness that someone has that sort of money to waste when so many are struggling. It's rather sick to buy something that was an item on the titanic
