Is Tobacco Coming to the End of the Road ?
In the News
France and the EU has declared an all out war on smoking
They are bringing in stronger measures like more taxation to reduce and eventually virtually ban cigarettes by 2040
Who would have thought it would have lasted this long
Tobacco was first cultivated in 6,000 BC by Native Americans .
In 1 BC Indigenous American tribes start smoking tobacco in religious ceremonies and for medicinal purposes
Then in 1492 Christopher Columbus first encountered dried tobacco leaves , they were given to him as a gift by the American Indians
Thats when it was introduced to the rest of the world and remains to the present day
Vaping is considerd to be 9% safer than tobacco , but there are strong doubts it is
The battle is ongoing, here is an article about it from 2022
They just keep trying to ban and restrict services/products under the pretense of health and/or "it's about the children." Come on, it's about money, control, and compliance.
For example, ULEZ is supposedly about improving the air and saving the children, but if you pay the con fee then you can keep driving (people can't realistically afford to pay £12.50 per day, it'll eventually leave them with an empty wallet). Good on the Blade Runners taking down the ULEZ cameras.
Don't forget they want to somehow ban meat and have people eat bugs and insects to somehow fight the climate change (fight? but the climate is always changing, that's the point of the different seasons).
I'll just end my rant here.
Tobacco is really dangerous for health. Canada is doing great job in controlling tobacco. We need to educate our children accordingly
Jerseydrew Both my parents died of cancers related to smoking J , all our family were exposed to the passive cigarette fumes while growing up , only one of our large family ever smoked and she stopped many years ago
I had to do a double take the other day when somebody walked past me smoking, it's just not something you see so much nowadays.
So I definitely think it is dying out.
Contrast that to when I holiday in Europe - particularly the Eastern side - It seems every other person has a cigarette in their hand.
blacklabrador Yes you do see it more when abroad B, i noticed a lot of people smoking in Italy for example
I hope not I love a cigarette it's the only thing that keeps me going it's just another way for them controlling us food, tobacco when will it be alcohol? No they won't do anything about that because they make to much money for that
Leannexxx totally agree with you I love getting up having a *** and a brew before I start the day
MelissaLee1 It is a slow process M, but they will just keep increasing the prices instead
The government will never lose out on an opportunity to increase taxes for any reason
I don't smoke, but I do believe in freedom of choice and if people want to smoke outdoors in open areas or in their own homes then they should be free to do so. Let's be honest, governments don't give a hoot about your health. It all boils down to money and control at the end of the day.
I can't see it completely dying our it's not good for health and everyone should be educated about it and what exactly is done by smoking but its the individuals choice. There's always going to be someone who does smoke and if its banned that's just going to make some more curious to try it. That and vapes are so widely known and promoted when they're not much harmful its just trading off one negative for another
I really hope it is and get rid of vaping as well. I am fed up walking down my local high street and walking into some else’s cloud of smoke. What gives them the right to pollute my air?
If you wanna smoke a cigarette you will , concentrate on county lines drugs - get rid rid of them.
I know in Australia a pack of cigarettes costs about £20 and in NZ they have actually passed a law that bans the next generation from smoking at all. Not a smoker myself but that doesn't seem fair to me. Not sure it will ever die out really and people are always going to find a way to do what they want.
