How to Ease Pain After Tooth Extraction for Children?

Ask a Question

My daughter had her first adult tooth removed yesterday as it was a extra tooth now she's in alot of pain and the gum looks grey would you say it sounds infected? She's saying there's no bad taste but blood , it's so painful she doesn't walk to talk

I had one out last October; it took the Dentist nearly 2 hours to extract it, I had to have a 2nd dose of pain killer injections because the 1st lot started wearing off I was in the chair so long.

The day after it barely hurt at all, I thought I'd dodged a bullet pain wise, but then it hit.

The gums hurt, the jaw ached where it was pulled about, even my tongue was sore.

That lasted about 10 days, then it started to ease, it can still hurt a bit If I eat something that catches in the gap (Yes I'm talking about you, Pringles!)

As long as it doesn't start bleeding, swelling or feeling hot I think it's ok.

blacklabrador ok thanks I'll keep a eye on it she's sat feeling sorry for herself 😞 in pain I'm giving her paracetamol and a little salt water but it's not helping if it's still bad Monday I'll phone her dentist up see what they say

You could ask the dentist for some pain killers or ring 111 for advice.

It’s a really horrible thing to have done. I’ve had a few done. I bled loads on one of them. Make sure she has plenty of gauze. The dentist didn’t give me enough so I bought my own from Boots. Apply gentle pressure. Take paracetamol if possible for the pain. Then at night rinse with tepid Luke warm cooled boiled water with a big spoon of salt and stir. Don’t clean teeth just rinse with this. It will be temporarily painful but it’s so good at healing the gum tissue quickly and pain will subside soon.

Leannexxx Can't see why not. It's only temporary..hopefully! I would definitely take her back to the dentist as well though .They do dish out high strength painkillers on request sometimes aka 400 mcg Nurofen.

Leannexxx if it's grey it could be dry socket which is incredible painful, it happens when the blood clot gets knocked off. It's best to ring the dentist asap to get to have a look and check.

aeje1982 it's hard to see the blood clot to be honest I will look again when she wakes up

Leannexxx I would ring them if she's still in agony this morning, as if she's got dry socket it will need to be looked at and possibly treating.

My tooth extraction was incredible painful afterwards,.I had to got back twice as it wasn't heeling properly first time they were scraping the remaining bone it without anaesthetic and it was so sore, the second time a tiny bone fragment was sticking out of the side of my gum.

aeje1982 oh no it's annoying for her she had to have it out as it was a extra tooth and it was stopping her other tooth from growing into place hopefully once it's all done we won't need braces
