Travel Advice from Old to Young?

My son is going backpacking so asked me for pearls of wisdom. I thought I would ask met fellow LD members.
Travellers who are 30+, please give 1 piece of advice to travellers who are 19 to 29
My advice was: Limit your alcohol intake!
It's cool to let loose and enjoy yourself but you want to remember the experience and Relish it....not spend half the mornings sleeping off a hangover!

It’s worth photocopying all essential paperwork, passport, travel insurance, bank cards with contact number if stolen, mobile phone contact details again if stolen so it can be blocked.
Budget your spending. Set a certain amount that can be spend each day, think about food, drink, travel, activities and take enough to cover it. Then have some set aside for an emergency.
Pack light, if travelling around you will always find what you need. Please, please, please make sure he gets travel insurance that covers for all he intends to do.
In countries where there is no set price for items and haggling may be involved I either wait around the stall for a few minutes to see what locals are paying or just decide in my head what i’m willing to pay and then just tell the stall owner to take it or leave it.
