Tv in the Bedroom Bad for Sleep

Other

Its apparently not good to have a tv in the bedroom

It causes sleep disturbance because of too much electrical energy circulating, and this could be a reason for insomnia

I don't have a tv in my bedroom as I prefer to read in bed, but my husband listens to the radio all night, he has one of those pillows with speakers in it.

Do you mean, when it is on or even when switched off? I would never leave my tv on if trying to sleep and I have never had trouble sleeping when it is off.

No L , when you watch it at night before you sleep

We do have a tv in the bedroom despite the reasons against , we sometimes watch a neflix movie or documentary etc before retiring

Its never affected me, i can fall asleep within 5 minutes of switching it off

But my wife is suffering from insomnia at the moment , i think its more to do with the current situation, if you will excuse the pun, but even if she didnt watch tv she would go on her i phone , which apparently is another thing said to affect sleep

TerenceMealing yes I definitely go along with the blue screen theory of disturbing the brain if used prior to sleeping. If she suffers with insomnia I would say not using it an hour or two before bed is a small price to pay. Along with no coffee, alcohol or other stimulants.

Lynibis She doesnt drink much alcohol , we only have a glass with our meal occasionaly, usually its juice, and she only drinks a cup of coffee in the morning for breakfast , so i think its more worries about the pandemic as she never had insomnia previously

Yes I, there are many things to cause insomnia, as i said previously, one is covid and its long reaching effects on us all , worrying about your health, jobs, and financial situation or more personal reasons, as well as distractions like the tv and phone

I don't have a TV on the bedroom. I watch it on the living room and turn it off half an hour before bed.

I have tv in room. It’s not always on. My first choice when I got to bed is a podcast and the breeze blowing in. But as there are three growing kids in my home it’s good to have the extra rooms with the tv space to allow for preference. 😌

My other half leaves the tv on all night, it drives me mental. I like absolute silence and pitch black.

I suppose the same can be said for anyone who uses their phones or tablets before bed

Is it not more of the blue light on your wife's phone that is causing more of the insomnia problems?

I have a TV in my bedroom, but don't believe it has disrupted my sleep. On the occasions when I struggle to fall asleep it's usually down to other things going on in my life at that particular time.

Depends how tired you are and if you can watch all the dirty scenes on the main telly in the living room with the family or not.

I always watch tv in bed to unwind, it doesn’t stop me falling asleep once it’s off it’s more that i always think ‘just one more episode’ 😬

Forgive me, but I do find it hilarious because electricity only flows through conductors and air is an insulator. Only extremely high voltage allows it to pass through air.

You might be referring to the weak electromagnetic forces that are produced due to current flow.

Also,an average LED TV in operating condition will use 80-100 watts which when compared to other equipment present in the room is not that big of a deal.

I’ve only once had a tv in a bedroom when I was 17 living with my ex, I hated it! I never had one growing up and said I will never have one in my home now and my son won’t ever have one. We will sit together downstairs watching tv and bedrooms are for sleeping 🤷🏻‍♀️

When I was a kid I received a Hitachi 14" b/w tv as a christmas present and used to watch it secretly until the tv services switched off at night plus used it with the early 8bit computers. I've always had a tv in the bedroom since. Currently I have a 42" 3D tv in the bedroom.

BonzoBanana 14” b/w? Same here.

I did have a record player (that's vinyl to you youngsters) when I was 5 and used to play rubbish Readers Digest albums that my parents had bought. Then I used to get the 7" singles that were discarded from the jukebox in my Dad's club.

Loved watching the old b/w TV in the bedroom too.

Pong, Atari, ZX81, Spectrum in the 70s/80s.
